July 19, 2007 at 3:25 pm in reply to: should i reinstall FCS 2 on top of itself?

thanks Jerry, but i did do all that. used Carbon Copy to clone my system drive to an external SATA drive, then did an erase and install of the OS. the OS installation went without a hitch, but two of my FCS 2 discs weren’t being read by the computer. the Installer requester would ask for the next disc, i put it in, wait…wait………wait….nothing…so i would put in the next disc and it read fine. “finished” the install, went back to the disc that wasn’t being read, and it finally read…but the installer requester screen was still “frozen”, asking for the same disc. never got to the “finish” section of the installation…

    thanks again!

Applecare?? (thanks for reminding me…i always forget about that resource).

i’ve done a little checking on the graphics cards, and at the MacPro site there is a comparison of the GeForce 7300 GT and the ATI Radeon X1900 XT. The GeForce occupies “one standard slot”, while the ATI takes a “double-wide” slot.

another dumb question (i should probably go back over to the calf), but how do i know which slot i have in my G5 dual 2 GHz?

also, the ATI appears to be around $300-400, what are your thoughts on less expensive cards?

(i’ll call Applecare as well…thanks for the tip)

    thanks again!

    thanks guys, i’ll get one…

that will obviously speed up my Motion playback, but what are your thoughts about my last FCS 2 upgrade install attempt? that is, the graphics card wouldn’t have anything to do with the computer not reading 2 of the install discs, would it?

    thanks again!

July 18, 2007 at 6:17 pm in reply to: Installing FCStudio 2? Here’s a Tip

    Hi Rich,

i’m using your method now as i upgrade to Studio 2…but i’ve had a problem in that my system has failed to read two of the discs when asked for. eventually, all the software has been loaded, but i’ve never gotten to the “Finish” screen in the Installer, and the requester is still asking for one of the discs that have already been installed.

i’m about to do a hard reboot since nothing else seems to be working.

    thanks again!

p.s. i forgot to add in the last one that i am a huge fan of Stevie Wonder. i have his first 10 albums, but you’re right, as a DP he pretty much sucks.

why are you “expected” to fix it??????

seems the DP should take some liability here. like also mentioned, a re-shoot is ultimately the best option, otherwise you’ll be rotoscoping every frame of every shot. what is your post budget???

i can’t offer any other suggestions until someone comes up with the perfect “schputz filter” for post work. of course, when that day comes, we’ll all be out of a job because a client would also then be able to just put on a metal helmet, dream of the perfect project, and out it will pop from his mind-meld.

would it work the same to just use “Disk Utility” to create a disk image of the current system drive/volume, or is CCC really the best way to go? either way, i’ve downloaded it and will probably give it a shot here shortly…(gotta run out and get another drive first!)

July 17, 2007 at 8:06 pm in reply to: kingston ram?? any good??

i just got back from the store and installed two more 1GB Kingstons (on $70 at CompUSA), and the Mac is seeing them fine, and all seems to be working…at least for now…

  • hmmmmm…is everyone having this problem???

i guess that will make both my HDCam (at DVCPro HD) AND my HDV footage libel for screwedup-ness?

  • (i have 5.0.4, not 5.1.4… but i’m guessing that doesn’t make much difference?)

also, could you define “screwed up?” i’m currently near the end of an HDCam (codec’ed to DVCPro HD) and HDV project and would like to find out all that i can.

    thanks again…
