Installing FCStudio 2? Here’s a Tip
Many have posted that they want to install Studio2 but don’t want to lose 5.1.4. I also did not want to lose A.Pack or the MPEG2 export option out of Quicktime.
Here’s my tip:
Before installing Studio2 I simply add the verision number to the end of the application filename. Final Cut Pro becomes Final Cut Pro 5.1.4. I do that with all the Studio Apps. If I want to keep A.Pack I move it out of the Apps folder temporarily.
Now I install all the Studio Apps. With Studio 2 I only had to reinstall my I/O card drivers, but that was it. All my layout configs, plugins etc all work in 5.1.4, 6.0 and the rest. I still have FCP 3.0, 4.5 and 5.0.4. I have Motion 2 and 3. Soundtrack 1 and 2 etc.
This has helped me, over the past few years, move into the new apps gradually, as I get to know the new app! I can still open an old 5.1.2 project and keep it in that version.
As always, any time I upgrade I make a clone of my drive (thank goodness for apps like Carbon Copy Cloner and the rest) so I know I have that backup before an OS update or a quicktime update.
