i’m doing my own final mixdown, and merely taking it to a post house to drop it all to an HDCam master. just curious how you all finish your own audio mixes, if you adjust clip by clip (which is what i’ve traditionally done) or do you do any final overall adjustments in STP? also, like someone else mentioned here, maybe the “normalize” function i had heard about is in the new FCS 2 and actually does bring the highs down and the lows up to a predetermined level. THAT would be ultra cool if true!

in your opinion, would the best solution be to just go ahead and upgrade to FCP 6, so then i can mix the native HDV with the XDCam on the same timeline, and not worry about trying to fiddle around with a new card to “uprez” the HDV?
are you using FCP 6? having any problems??

i’ll check around at some retailers…but i’ll also put the word out here if there is anyone here who knows of anyone who would like to sell the 5.2 upgrade, i’m in the market! : )
also, good news on the capture card. that was what i figured (on the XDCam anyway), but still needing to know about the Intensity’s capabilities on my system.

interesting idear, but wouldn’t it be better to shoot the XDCam at it’s optimum resolution, and just “uprez” the HDV a little? just curious, but we’ll be mastering out to HDCam for the network. . . which brings up another question: would it be better/faster/cheaper to master to the XDCam camcorder, then take the XDCam disc to the post house and just do a “straight” transfer to the HDCam tape????

ah. more RAM. makes sense. when i first bought this system (2 years ago) it had 500 MB RAM, and my dealer quickly said that i should upgrade to at least 1.5 GB if not 2 GB. at that point, though, i wasn’t dealing in any HD content. the timeline i’m working in now is DVCPro HD…so i guess it’s time to upgrad to 4 GB?
yes, stills are mostly the problem…and namely, a sequence (“A”) which i am using inside of another sequence (“B”). “A” is a targa image sequence from Motion. anytime i alter the beginning or ending of “A” within “B”, i get a nice long “preparing video for display” window…

go ideas here Shane…but exporting movie files from Motion? i’m assuming you mean to be used on the timeline in FCP? i’ve always been just using the Motion file itself in FCP (though obviously suffering some horrendous render times), have also had trouble exporting a Motion movie with an alpha channel to super in on top of my timeline (lower thirds, etc.). i have at times exported a tga image sequence from Motion, then bring it into it’s own FCP sequence, and then using the sequence as the supered graphic, but if there is a better way to export an alpha-ed Motion project i’m all ears! : )

hmmmm… still no help. have you tried contacting BM directly? either they just don’t frequent this forum, or they, uh, well or they maybe are doing something else…
keep me posted if you hear anything…
