hmmm…there must be something therapeutic about actually posting things here, because right after i posted my mp2 problem, “MPEG Streamclip” jumped into my little pinhead. I demuxed the mp2 audio file to aiff there and all is well…but I would still really like to be able to use the ’08 iMovie and am curious about this Quartz Extreme deal if any of you know anything about it…

Sounds good…and i agree with the “capturing with no TC” comment, which is part of why i do not like using HDV. Is there a better way to capture it? It seems from my limited experience with HDV, it has seemed virtually impossible to re-capture accurately. Any advice there? And tons of TC breaks…

Doh! The head of bone strikes again! As I ejected the miniDV tape that was in the deck, i looked closer to find that it was an HDV tape! Took the deck back to the rental house with me tail between me legs, and got an HDV camcorder for capture. Now flying along. Hopefully you will get your problem solved soon…

Hmmm…i am having the same problem. Just rented a DSR-11 deck to capture 5 client DV tapes. I have machine control from FCP (tape shuttles no problem), but no pix or sound in FCP, and the viewer window has color bars and “Preview Disabled”. I’ve tried several different setup options to no avail. Let me know if you hear anything, as I will you.

i had that one figured out just a few minutes ago, but thanks for the help. i was going to come on here and post my solution after i send this short test clip to my Avid client to see how well the file plaes for them.

boy, i really hate it when i seem so stupid with this stuff, but you guys are really patient in answering some of these really dumb and basic questions i have. thanks again for all you guys do here!

I downloaded these codecs and installed them, but after reading the Avid Answer page it sounds like this codec is to be used on the Avid machine that is doing the exporting….or should my client be able to use this Avid DV100 codec to read the DVCPro HD files I have sent them? Otherwise, it looks like i will need to restart on my end and re-export all my files in either the Animation codec as suggested, or i might just go with a “smaller” NTSC coded because this HD show is to be played in standard def at this venue.

Hi Brett,

I get the same thing happening a lot. The keyboard command will turn it back on . . . but sometimes only for a cut or two, and then it’s off again. I even click on it’s icon and even that doesn’t keep it on very long SOME times. Other times i have no problem. I do the trash prefs thing, but it still seems like it shouldn’t happen so often. Oh well…

HEY!

Guess who got a package in the mail today from ATI??? Ya, my card has been returned…with virtually no communication from the company as to what was wrong with it or whether they fixed or replaced it. Either way, I’m SO glad it is back. It’s working fine right now and after having it gone for 6 weeks, it probably would’ve been far more cost-effective to have just run out and bought a brand new one. My old card was slow enough that I’m sure i spent more than $300 worth of time over these 6 weeks waiting on screen redraws. Oh well…live and learn.

I would go ahead and send yours in if you haven’t already, but be forewarned it might take awhile. If your secondary card is “good enough”, i would say go for it…
