i rendered out a show that has four segments. i exported each segment as a single QT (DVCPro HD codec) file and sent all these files to them on their hard drive. they are using Avid, and can’t view them!!!! ARRGGHH. they say they can hear them but not see anything.

how do you guys sent hi rez files to other machines and platforms?

i just talked to her again and she says she has been trying to view them on a Windows Vista machine. is there any known issue when viewing an FCP-created QT on a Vista PC?

    thanks again!

The DVCPRO HD codec only comes with FCP…it is installed when FCP in installed. Any computer without FCP…even a Mac…cannot view those files. This goes for HDV and EX1 footage as well.

Well, if they are on a Mac, I get them the DVCPRO HD Quicktime Components. If they are on a PC, I export the footage as ANIMATION. Huge sizes, but lossless.

    Hi Mortimer,

    I have a cross-platform DVCProHD codec here:

    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/DVCProHDDecodeQ.html

Your client can download a free demo for OSX or Windows that will show the footage with watermarks.

    Cheers,
    Greg

[mortimer heathcliff] “they are using Avid”

    Download the Avid Codecs here:

Avid Codecs at Bottom of Page

Export your DVCProHD files in the Avid DV100 codec. They’ll be good to go then, and if they need to import them into their Avid it’ll be a fast import on their end.

    Michael.

I downloaded these codecs and installed them, but after reading the Avid Answer page it sounds like this codec is to be used on the Avid machine that is doing the exporting….or should my client be able to use this Avid DV100 codec to read the DVCPro HD files I have sent them? Otherwise, it looks like i will need to restart on my end and re-export all my files in either the Animation codec as suggested, or i might just go with a “smaller” NTSC coded because this HD show is to be played in standard def at this venue.

    thanks again!
