i was reading about the lower field dominance,

i recorded my footage on a panasonic dvx 100A on progressive scan mode for PAL 25fps

from my limited understanding, this means there is no interlacing but truly 25 individual frames a second. Please correct me if i am wrong.

i uploaded to finalcut pro as regular DV PAL (there is no other option that worked) and exported the QT for AF.

in this situation should i still go with lower field? or should i turn it off since there is technically no interlacing?

please guide me!

thanks for your responses!

when i export the sequence full quality and view it on quicktime, the interlacing remains. this is the interlacing observed from the canvas but absent at the very same frame on the viewer.

is it strange? is this indicative of a problem in the reverse telecine?

i have a tv but i don’t have a miniDV pal camcorder to hook up my imac to the tv.

is the image seen on the desktop (in QT or finalcut pro) is usually a lower quality than what it actually is?

is it fair to export the movie in finalcut pro (via quicktime and NOT quicktime conversion) and use it as a full quality version of the film to give to a compositor? i.e. this method is no different from digitizing to a miniDV tape and passing it to the compositor.

thanks for responding!

unfortunately, i don’t have an external monitor to view the movie.

however, when i view the movie on full screen mode in finalcut pro and later after the export on quicktime pro, the latter looks more grainy and words look blurry.

some updates on tests i did:

my video files are .rev and were reverse telecined on cinema tools.

i can merge my video files with other audio files i downloaded online

i can merge my audio files with some other video file that has not been rev telecined.

however, i still cannot merge my .rev video with my original audio!

my editor is new to this, we just graduated from usc and this is our first project on finalcut pro. we had been using avid in school.

thanks for responding! I am really quite upset with the lab.

i’m capturing from miniDV

we originally tried capturing from the circle burn and that’s what the lab said was the A frame but the keycodes were not in order. Meaning the burn-in keycode would run 1431, 1433, 1434… or something.

can i check with you? because my editor and i are really suspected frames 2 and 7 to be the A frame

but after reverse telecine, there are no interlaced frames but some keycodes are blurry. Was this for your case? The key codes were running in order tho like 1431, 1432, 14(blurry), 1434, 1435….

hi musman,

I’m not sure how to get the G Cadence to work in finding out what my A frame is for reverse telecine.

the G Cadence program requires finalcut pro to play at 100 percent square pixels off, I’m not sure how to set that.

and after putting the plug-in in the folder, what’s the next step?
