Composition crops QT despite having the same size as QT clip
hi everyone,
I’m fairly new to adobe after effects but I’ve learnt how to composite and color time on the program. I’m using AF 6.5 for mac.
I realised that the composition appears to crop the image despite having the same settings as the movie file.
my movie file settings are: 720X576 non-square (1.46:1), separating(lower) 25fps DV-PAL
the composition settings are 720X576 D1/DV PAL widescreen(1.42)
i shot the movie with the panasonice dvx 100A (PAL), are my movie settings wrong? I particular, I don’t quite understand the separating(lower) setting. What does that mean?
When I exported the composition, sure enough it was cropped a bit at the sides as ‘expected.’ This is as compared to the original movie output from final cut.
Really appreciate any insight because I hope to use AF as the final output for the film.

Heh … those two look different, not the same.
Try this:
1. Select your footage in the project window, and make sure it has been interpreted properly: separate lower field first, widescreen if the footage is widescreen.
2. Drag the footage from the project window to the “new comp” button at the bottom of the project window. It’s the button that doesn’t look like anything recognizable. This should create a comp with the same settings as your footage. Feel free to change the comp length at any time.Note: if the footage will not be moved, rotated, scaled or distorted in any way, you can set “separate fields” to “off” when interpreting the footage.
