UPDATE!!!!
We have corrected this issue in a new driver build. Please use driver 6.8.4 if you have not already updated. If you have already updated, you can use the above work around to get your system up and running again, then update to 6.8.4.
The driver can be found here:
Decklink: https://blackmagic-design.com/downloads/software/DeckLink_Macintosh_6.8.4.zip
Multibridge: https://blackmagic-design.com/downloads/software/Multibridge_Macintosh_6.8.4.zipThanks for your patience on this.

Well, the pass though from our boards (in capture mode) is all pre-processing. So, on capture the image that is passed to the output is exactly the same that is going to the input with no changes. Even if you have the down converter on, the output of the board is still HD. Once you change to playback mode the output will be down converted (assuming you have it on).
Once you get into playback mode the output will be down converted for you.

I would recommend both of you guys give us a call so we can work this through directly. There is not alot of information in this post to work with, and the support guys don’t always get on these forums to check out the issues.

December 17, 2008 at 1:45 am in reply to: Broadcast Converter HDMI Input Signal Input ListKarl,
This is from our webpage on the product:
625/25 PAL, 525/29.97 NTSC, 625/50p PAL, 525/59.94p NTSC, 1080p23.98/24, 1080i50, 1080i59.94/60, 720p50 and 720p59.94/60.
Is that what you were looking for?

If the DV Deck has a serial port for control it would be possible. But normally they don’t. Another option you could check would be to change the device control settings in the capture window to be DV, then you can use firewire for device control, but the decklink for capture and playback.

Partly. It cannot be used by itself. It must be attached to a board that does SDI output. So as an example if you have one of our Decklink HD Extreme boards you would connect the HDSDI output of the board to the HDSDI input of the HDLink. This would then connect to a DVI display for monitoring.
At that point the HDLink should monitor whatever is fed through it from the card.
I hope that helps.

While the down converter does not work well between frame rates (e.g. going 24 -> 29.97) it normally tries to work. Best bet is that you setup with a 720p 59.94 time line and let FCP do the 3:2 pull down. Then turn the down converter on.
But from what you are saying the down converter is not an option at all. Is that right?

Hey Everyone,
Kristian is right, we are looking into a proper solution to this as quickly as possible. But if you are one of those people that updated to 10.5.6 and are stuck (i.e. you cannot go back) then I have a work around for you. It is quick and even better, it doesn’t require that you take your computer apart to do it. Just follow these steps below.
1> Boot your computer in safe mode. To do this reboot the computer, as soon as you hear the chime press and hold the SHIFT key. Continue to hold the SHIFT key until you see the gear under the apple, then you may release the SHIFT key.
2> Once the computer has booted into safe mode browse to Macintosh HD> Library> Application Support> Decklink.
3> Find the Decklink Startup file (for multibridge users as well). MOVE this file to the desktop (don’t just copy it, it needs to not be in that folder).
4> Reboot your computer normally.
5> Once your computer is back up and running please copy this DecklinkStartup file back into the folder you took it out of (your not done yet, so read on).
6> Now go to Apple -> System Preferences -> Decklink and set the video desktop setting to “Last Played Frame”, then close the preferences.
7> Reboot your computer and it should boot normally and all of your previously saved control panel settings should be loaded. Please do not use Video Desktop mode’s black setting until we can fix this properly.
This should get you up and running. Of course we recommend waiting to do this update until after we have a proper fix for this issue, but again, if you are stuck, this should help you out.
Of course, for anyone that needs more help then this, I encourage you to contact your local office by phone so we can help you out more personally.

If you have the latest version of the driver installed on your machine, hook up the HDLink to the computer via USB. Open the HDLink utility and if it prompts for an update then let it update. If it does not prompt an update then the firmware is up to date.
Two other things.
1> What format of video are you using? Because HDMI out will not work properly with SD formats.
2> Some TVs will not support SD video over HDMI that is not 480p (which our device only outputs 480i).Both of these could be an issue.

Hey Vince,
As a test could you hook up the HDLink to your Cinema display? So if you are using two monitors, or have a second monitor you can put as the primary monitor of your Mac.
By doing this we can verify the HDLink against a known compatible monitor (cinema display). If the HDLink doesn’t work with the Cinema display it could mean there is a problem with the unit. If it does work then it could be a setting on the monitor, or the monitor may just not be compatible.
Again the most important part of doing this test is establishing that the HDLink is working properly.
