November 8, 2005 at 3:57 pm in reply to: Creating gradiant halftone Alpha Layer in PShop for AE

    Hey Chris –

    Thanks for the feedback.

Here’s the issue – I need to get the halftone effect on the layer so what I end up with is essentially a graduating ramp of the dots in size as well as color. I can then drop that layer onto layer B – also a gadient.

I thought maybe creating 2 layers in PShop one gradient color and the other the halftone dots was best.

Is it an overly-complicated solution? Any ideas?

You can’t expect to even begin to tap AE’s potential without knowing the compulsory applications as well, i.e. PS, Illustrator.

It’s kind of like a painter getting frustrated with the fact that you should know how to mix your paint.

PS isn’t even remotely as complex as AE and if you’re already working with it, I think you’ll find PS pretty basic in comparison. Total Training has a great DVD on Pshop that will get you up and running pretty quickly. I went through their AE series and can’t tell you how much it’s helped. Definately worth the investment.

Good luck and check out the TT dvd.

    Best,
    Josh

DaVincci De-Classified is the programs title. Was running on cable.

The shops’s design page on their site is https://www.beantown.tv/pages/design/main_title/

The work on the show was much more impressive.

    Hi Steve,

    Thanks for the response.

Yeah, I’m new to AE – I went through the the Brian Maffit/TT DVD set – but I’m still cloudy on masks.

I think I figuered it out – “A” was almost all Alpha so text was comming through the alpha.

    Thank you again.

Did you try collapsing the individual text layer itself?

Hey man – yeah i havent seen any but I’ve been experimenting with this same this for teh past couple of days. Masking works OK – the more detailed the mask the better the result, but the more detailed the mask the more uneven it seems to end up. Good masking is real talent I’m finding.

Set you Mask Shape key frames farther apart and compress inwards – the interprolation is smoother vs trying to adjust to longer durations.
Also Ease the appropriate key frames for drips etc.

Are you getting drips from Pshop Brushes?
