  • Masks, Modes and Layer Orders…

    Sorry for the question in advance – very elementary, but causing significant frustration.

    I have three layers. A, B and C, in this order in the timeline:

    A = border with Alpha, revealing center.
    B = text.
    C = solid.

    I’d like B to move into the center of A as if B is between A and C. A is semi-transparent so it needs a mask.

    I create an elliptical mask on A, experiemented with inverting and modes, but B continues to appear ontop of A.

    What gives?

    Thanks in advance.

    Your layers should be stacked top-to-bottom in the timeline thusly:

    A
    B
    C

    Does that help?

    By the way, have you read the manual? You seem to have some experience with other apps and are attempting to apply it without reading the AE manual first. Just a thought. 🙂

    Hi Steve,

    Thanks for the response.

    Yeah, I’m new to AE – I went through the the Brian Maffit/TT DVD set – but I’m still cloudy on masks.

    I think I figuered it out – “A” was almost all Alpha so text was comming through the alpha.

    Thank you again.

    Ah, I see … many ways to go astray in this app. 🙂
