Can’t think of the exact name of it right now, but it’s there. Use it all the time. You can use the preview window, too — drag red-outline box to desired location on output preview.

Sounds like there is a conflict — not sure if you’re trying to ripple delete video or audio, but from what you’ve described, it seems like when it is trying to pull the remaining media back after you select ripple delete, FCP is finding a conflict. Set up that way to preserve audio/video sync. Not sure if this is what you’re seeing–if it is, you might see if preferences will let you modify it, but I’m not sure about that.

You may also want to check that you’ve given yourself enough pad on each still that there is enough room for a cross fade or dissolve.

Maybe check your video settings — If you’ve created a custom setting it can affect that. My viewer displays the last frame of video I had my playhead on until I move it to a new frame of video even if I’m hovering over an empty spot on the timeline; just how I have it set up personally. You might also try using an easy set-up option. I’d first try reseting your video settings to default–that will probably do it; if that doesn’t work, use the easy set-up option that most closely matches what you’re doing. I imagine that the problem is originating in the video display settings. If it turns out to be a larger problem, might be something with the playback speed, but you would probably have noticed that by now.
Hope that helps –

December 3, 2009 at 4:40 am in reply to: Animation codec aliasing in ProRes sequenceThat gave me another thought, though, which seems to have fixed it – I was using the 1440×1080 frame size for the sequence, but changed it to 1920×1080 (which is the size of the rendered files from AE, but not the size of the footage) and that seems to have cleared it up. Still working on the logic behind that
Sounds like a pixel ratio issue. I’ve seen it before with HDV pixel ratios verses the full frame ratio–and how FCP is interpreting the data. I haven’t dug into it by any means, but if you’re determined to get into that logic, that’s where I’d start. That territory is ripe for problems like you’re seeing.

It sounds like a drop frame / non-drop frame issue you’re seeing. I’d check that in your sequence setting window — willing to bet that is what you’re seeing. I haven’t worked with 24psf much, but I know it reacts differently than 24p.
Hope this helps!

Matt, if I’m reading this correctly, the screener footage is 720×480 and was stretched into 720p? If so you might just try to go to compressor and convert back to the DV template setting. Don’t preserve aspect or anything–that should bring the footage back to shape–I say should, but without seeing the footage, you know. If it’s just screener footage and you’re using it for a rough edit or whatever, you might just try a resize in FC. The real problem is the time base change. Difference between 23.98 and 29.97 can add up in a short amount of time, especially if you’re using converted stock footage which licenses by seconds–and you could end up being wildly off with stock footage orders. (*assuming you’re using stock due to the screener footage you’ve got now.) But best to go with the screener footage format prior to conversion. Like I say, if you can use compressor to go back to DV, that would be the way to go; Usually processes pretty quickly, too.
Best of luck.

Did you try the “save as” function? Sounds like it was set as a read only file for that system, while your primary system had read & write permissions.

What is the file extension? For the first clip that imports, assuming it is .mov? What are the extensions for the non-fcp icons? If they’re not .mov, try switching one and see if it turns from that icon into a movie icon.

I had a misunderstanding with this not long ago. Thanks to cow member Martti, it’s clear.
