FCP won’t let me ripple delete
Hello,
New to FCP after 10 years on the AVID.
Why will FCP sometimes not let me RIPPLE DELETE. (Or extract in Avid terminology.) I have a V1 and A1, A2 layers, some with audio, some blank.
A3 and A4 is my music track, unrelated to what’s on V1, A1, and A2.
A5 I have one little bit of scratch track, unrelated to what’s on V1, A1, and A2 as well.
I have my toggle select tracks on for V1/A1/A2, and off for the rest. No tracks are locked.
Anyone?

Sounds like there is a conflict — not sure if you’re trying to ripple delete video or audio, but from what you’ve described, it seems like when it is trying to pull the remaining media back after you select ripple delete, FCP is finding a conflict. Set up that way to preserve audio/video sync. Not sure if this is what you’re seeing–if it is, you might see if preferences will let you modify it, but I’m not sure about that.

Thanks, I actually figured it out from one of the older Cow posts.
I needed to lock the non-relevant tracks, and then it allowed me to do it. I never once in my life used locking in Avid, but I guess it’s essential in FCP.
