What resolution did you capture the clips in?
My gut is it’s not the XPress per se. It could be a flaw in the original clip, and by the time it gets to AE, it’s glaring.

I think Avid’s vaunted media management would really screw this workflow up – it would be constantly update the media database and eventually, all the machines would slow to a crawl. As I understand it, Unity and Edit share have a ‘traffic cop’ type of software to handle this issue.

Trashing the Media databases did clear the error message however this only worked once the corrupt media files were deleted from the drives. One side note be sure that the user is closed out of Xpress when deleting files from the drives. This error message came about while deleting files from the drives with XPRESS still running in the background.
I just had a problem with my MC/Meridian on a Mac; I kept having to throw away corrupted media files (you know they’re corrupted when they have a ‘+’ before the name of the file). I also had an issue with a crammed full raid array – less than 150mb. Once I freed up some space, It worked like a charm.
I also trashed the application preference file, as well as the MCState file.

Telestreams’ FlipFactory (https://www.telestream.net/products/flipfactory.htm) is the product you’re thinking of Chaz. I know Armed Forces Radio & Television Service uses it, as well as lots of companies doing exactly what your doing.

Are you talking shared storage amongst a crew in close proximity, or seperated by miles?
Avid Unity is definitely set up to handle this scenario, although within a closer proximity (and not having hands-on experience, it just might be capable of long distance sharing). Another shared storage option is a company called EditShare. It’s the only other product ‘blessed’ by Avid. Again, I don’t have hands on with the product – it too might be cable of long distance connections…

Sounds like what you’re seeing is interlace video (NTSC) viewed on a progressive monitor. Are you in fact viewing your quicktime movies on your computer monitor?
Giving us a little more info on your system and export settings would help.

Hmmm, I’m not familiar with film xfers at all. Try posting this over at the COW Avid forum. There’s lots of film guys who might know how to fix this. Unless, of course someone here knows about this.

It’s actually an OS issue, not an Avid issue…
Are you encoding on the same machine? If you are, try a QT reference.

I’ve found the longer the video, the shorter the time needed to finalize a disc on my JVC recorder. I think there’s some multitasking going on. Then again, we’re sending the recorder a composite signal. I wonder if that has something to do with it.
