Unless you have an hour avi file, you’ll have to continue to add the key. You could reneder the first one, then cut and paste it down the timeline. It should keep the render. Or, you could do a mixdown of just your keyed avi (I think that will work). Or render it in AE and import it as a key…

Just hit the dissolve button. Rubber banding is an OK way to do audio, but I like the dissolve – it’s much easier. If you don’t want the video to fade out, just deselect the video track, hit the dissolve key (|\) – it’s done.

I don’t know that there is a hotkey. I use timeline views (it’s a pulldown menu, middle left bottom of the time line window). Adjust your timeline the way you like it, then click on the timeline view and click save as… A dialog will pop up, and you can call it whatever you’d like. I have a normal view, big audio 1&2, 3&4 and 5&6.

I don’t think you can map that function, but it wouldn’t suprise me if you could….

Despite what Apples marketing folks want you to believe, a properly configured PC is just as stable as a Mac.

If you are a PC guy, get a PC. If you like Macs, get a Mac.

If you are a gotta-get-the-latest-upgrade, bleeding edge kind of person, go with a PC – those upgrades come much faster than the Mac side.

Also, try deleting your MCState file (Application/Avid/XPressPr/Settings). If that doesn’t help, deleting your preference file in the (I think) User/system/preferences.

I had problems with my OSX/Meridian system, and the preference file seemed to help the most. It’s kind of like zapping the PRAM…

I don’t know the CPU would fail consistently. It could be a combination of a lot of things. There could be one part of your system that doesn’t have the throughput Avid needs. If you have multiple video layers, try doing a mixdown.

Have you tried capturing via firewire with the Mojo? It really does speed up the performance of your whole system. And your taking in DV natively. I’ve got two systems with Mojo, and they’ve been pretty flawless. BTW, Mojo does need black burst for analog video. It may even need it for FW.

Compare your system with what Avid wants. See if you can find a part that could be causing problems.

I personally don’t crop my projects. I’ve found that most people accept the bars around the edges. If the customer insists, I’ll set up a crop. We recently completed a project editing and encoding 32 hour long speeches. I set up a watch folder within Sorenson, and dropped the completed QT files in. It cooked overnight, and in the morning I’d burn the DVD, to include a .wmv. It worked like a charm. We also put all the .wmv files on a server, so the community could access the files.

OT, I was recently in your neck of the woods in the Moore Co. / Ft. Bragg area looking at a job out there. Looks like a nice area.
