The 2GB limit is an OS problem – not an Avid problem.
Export your video as either a QT reference or a QT same as source, and compress it with a 2d party application with something like like Sorenson, Procoder, or Cleaner.
I never had luck with Avid’s export option, and I’m pretty sure that’s why the option disapeared in later versions. If you buy a new Avid, Soreneson comes bundled with it.

The simplest, easiest, fastest way is to save a copy as a .png (I think ver 6.0 still makes you ‘save a copy – if it has ‘save as’, .png export is available there). You’ll get your alpha – provided your PShop image is created with a transparent background (this should be an option when you first create your image).

I upgraded my MC Meridian from a G4 544 mhz to a single processor (dual is recommended) G4 1.25 mhz box, and ver MC12. It’s a little buggy (which I attribute to single vs. dual processors), but the color correction was definitely worth the effort. Keep in mind you can only use OS X ver 10.2.6. It may require a little hoop jumping to get (I started with a lower version and got the upgrade through the Apple site. Some things to keep in mind:
Switching to OS X means everything else (PShop, AE, whatever) that worked in OS9 needs to be upgraded. Apple says you can use classic mode to run the old stuff, but I’m either to stupid to make it work or it’s all just hype…
All your media drives need to be ‘carbonized’. Which means all your media needs to be moved somewhere else. Come to think of it, I’m not sure OS 9 media will work in OS X – Anyone have a better handle on this?
One particular thing that popped up recently. I installed Cleaner XL and it kept crashing. After a little investigation, it turned out the Quicktime version was too low for cleaner, and a higher version of QT required a higher version of OS X (you’ve got to keep 10.2.6). Now I’ve got Cleaner on my AE machine, hooked up through the network. I export same as source QT’s, and it works like a champ.
Eventually, I’m planning on going to Adrenaline, but until then, I have to make the Meridian warhorse work.

Make sure there is no black (even 1 frame) between your selections. If you have black, you have to select that as well.

Shift+click to your hearts content. Remember to click on the black portions between clips if you are trying to move multiple clips.

There have been many really good threads about reels, here and in other forums (search on ‘reels’ – there was a really good one over a Art of the Edit a few months ago). Read those, and if you have more specific questions, I for one will be more than happy to insert my foot in my mouth!

What you describe sounds like DVC Pro 50 being played in a 25 deck, hence my assertion that Sony can’t play DVC Pro. In my sleep deprived response, I should have said it can’t play back DVC Pro 50. Is your source tape 50? Remember, you can shoot 50 on a 25 tape, so don’t go by what the tape label says. Of course I’ve seen a really wierd artifact on 25 where a reused tape showed both the old shot and the new shot on the same frame. I’ll have to dig that out and steal a frame from it – it’s kinda’ weird….

Get a Panasonic deck. You can’t play back DVCPro on a Sony deck…
