We’ve had decent success wih Marshall monitors. Unfortunately, it only goes to 10 (sorry for the Spinal Tap reference…). If all you are doing is showing clients your video stuck to the tape, I suppose it would be good. If your showing them how good your video is, find a Sony 8044Q monitor on ebay…

You can also save your graphic as a .png. No need to worry about saving a PS transparency layer! (You still need to invert your alpha as explained above…)

I should have been more specific on my situation. I am capturing on either a 900 or a pannie 700. Our broadcast stuff goes to a Meridian Avid SDI in / out, then to SDI (DVCPro) or RGB (BetaSP). Our XPress Pro’s are RGB in and out. For our studio, we go through a GVG 110 (RGB). For our corporate type stuff, we go camera to XPress Pro to DVD (and sometimes tape). Essentially, we have our foot in the digital door but still live in an analog world.
What I’m hearing is I don’t need setup period. Should I acquire sans setup and add in the deck when I know I’m delivering to a TV station?
Knowledge is power, except in this case. It causes confusion!

I don’t think you’ll find much difference initially – most of the improvements over your system are really cool. Color correction, the dissolve tool is a little different, the title tool STILL sucks (although you can soften shadows now)… Marquee is a really neat program, once you get past the manual…
I foresee no problems with your upgrade to a newer Avid. Same interface, cool new toys!

By all means, reestablish communication. If you don’t, they will assume you’ve skulked away like a… really bad thing in the night. Better yet, call, and if appropriate, drop by for a short visit. You did the correct thing by owning up to your mistake (you did save the suspect cable for testing later, right?). Regardless, keep those lines of communication open.

Your profile doesn’t say wether you are using Mojo. If you are, the Lacie drive sticks out. There’s been a lot of discussion regarding firewire drives – as in ‘it makes the system buggy’. Mojo wants all your FW resources, and pouts when it doesn’t have exclusive use. Unless your FW card is on a totally seperate bus, I’d look at that as well.

Have you tried using the PD150 to capture? Or better yet, a deck? Have you played with the deck configuration?

We did that and I just heard from my editor that the resulting file was, to quote my favorite commercial, “BRILLIANT”.
