Posted by Jason.w on November 9, 2005 at 7:46 pmThis question has probably been up before but please bear with me – How does one import a Photoshop file in to AVID that has a transparent background.
Thx a lot everybody.

November 9, 2005 at 10:48 pmTHis used to be a very complicated process in the early days of AVID but these days it is very simple. All that you have to do is import it as if it were a JPEG or some other still file. The catch is that you have to make sure that your import settings are correct. You should set the Alpha to invert existing alpha. THis should fix your problem. Also, in photoshop, make sure that you save the file with transparency on the layer. I usually make sure that the file is only one layer and save it as a PSD file but I am not sure that this is necessary.

As the guys said inversion is the import option to use, however you can import a PSD file with transparency. Just add an alpha channel in photoshop and when you go to save you will see that as well as layers being checked in the save options that alpha layers are too. just be carefull AVID has real problems with premultiplied alphas, so if your trying to take in drop shadows etc, you will need to do a little painting after adding the alpha in PS.
