If you don’t mind the dumb questions first! 🙂

-Do you have continuous time code on tape?
-Are you controlling the deck via firewire or RS422? (According to the qualified devices list – https://www.avid.com/content/8927/SUPPORTED%20DEVICES%20FOR%20AVID%20EDITOR%20PRODUCTS.pdf, only RS422 is supported on the J3 deck…)
-Are your templates set correctly?

Have you tried using a different deck template (generic, maybe?)
Have you tried trashing your MCState files and buiding a new deck template?

That’s all I can think of with limited caffine intake…

This will only work if you have Mojo 🙂

In the digitize tool (after setting your input to firewire), click on the WFM/V-Scope icon. At the bottom of that window (you don’t have any controls in firewire), click on ‘save as’. In that window, type ‘Default’. Type it exactly like that, without the quotation marks. Firewire is now set as the default.

Yeah, probably. I’m usually not at work when I’m poking around here – so you are correct. I think .msm files are in my mac meridian. Or my delusional brain….

I’m not sure I follow. If you use Mojo/Adrenaline/Meridian to input your video, there is no problem.

If you are talking about a digital format (specifically IEE1394), Hi8 doesn’t have firewire outputs (could be wrong though)…

So, are you trying to get Hi8 into the Avid? If so, what is your setup? If you have one of the three input devices listed above, you simply attach your deck / camera and go to town. If you can only go firewire, then you’ll need a A/D converter. Old versions (3.4) actually came with a third-party A/D converter, which makes the whole process simpler.

Remember Avid is driven by a Quicktime engine. Whatever program you use needs to use quicktime as well. Using avi will put you in the 2gb OS file limit….

Dan –

I know this is a big undertaking (but I expect nothing less from a fellow graduate of the VI School at Lowry!) – but are you planning to have an email list or something? I’d love to know at least when & where the meetings are. With COSMIX & TREX & the speed trap at Castle Rock, just getting to Denver is an adventure of epic proportions!

Sony Anycast, Gobecaster? (for the life of me I can’t think of the proper name or company – I think it’s made by the folks formerly known as Play…), are two you might want to look at. The Sony is pretty cool. The other thing (sorry I can’t remember the name) is less than US$5k, but I’m sure you have to add on to make it work. Plus it only accepts S-Video and has RCA audio inputs. Panasonic makes a little 4 input switcher, and Videonics offers a line as well. There are several other companies out there that offer solutions for this. It really depends on how much money you want to spend….

Does it show up in the import explorer windwo? Have you tried dragging the file directly into a bin? A path not correct error sounds like you are trying to import from somewhere the Avid doen’t think exists, not an inability of the Avid to not see the file…

You could do either. My preference would be to loop the DVD (within the authoring software, you link the video back to the beginning).
