That would be ideal as the portion that still needs keyed out does not conflict with the subject. How would I go about it? Thanks, Jon

Chris,
Further assistance if I may. When I open your project (blow out fixer backup 2.aep) in AE CS4 v9.0.0.346, I get three boxes I must first select OK to get past so your file will open:
“After Effects: this project must be converted from version 8.0×247 (windows) and will open as an untitled project. Standard Definition pixel aspect ratios will be updated for compatibility and improved accuracy. The original file will be unchanged.”
“This project contains 1 reference to a missing effect. Please install the following effect to restore this reference. (“SA color Finesse 2″)”
“After Effects warning: 1 file is missing since you last saved this project.”
I don’t really know what the significance of the first two messages are, but I am trying to use this with HD footage (1080p). I am assuming the last message about “1 file missing” is what you are referring to about replacing.
When it opens, I am not quite sure what needs replaced with my footage, which is a 1080p AVI file. I can right click on just about anything in the “Project” box and I am able to replace but I am not sure which ones need replaced. Just a guess would say any or all(?) of the italicized headings? In other words, am I replacing “a.jpg”, and the two “original source deleted” categories with my footage?
Please correct me if I’m right or wrong and what is the next step for adjustment?
Sorry, this is a totally new approach for me and I am trying to understand the procedure here.

Chris,
Thanks for the info. How do I go about using this? I can load it as a project, but not sure how to proceed from there.

Jon,
That would be acceptable but how do I do it?
Thanks,

July 10, 2010 at 11:13 pm in reply to: help needed with rotation of tracking area/ cloned areaThanks for responding, I’ll try. Imagine a small 2 dimensional box that moves around randomly in the video. It only stays in the x-y plane, but sometimes the box will lift one of its ends slightly as it travels around (a bit of rotation). Now I am trying to motion track and clone over the side of the box facing me, which is the only side anyway being in 2D. While I can easily track the box and clone over it because I used a single tracking point, I am unable to fully cover over the side when the box tilts because I used a tracking point and didn’t enable the rotation box at the time of tracking (which would have automatically given me two tracking points). I’m asking if there’s anyway I can rotate the cloned area to match the boxe’s tilt without having to go back and retrack the entire video with two tracking boxes. When I try to rotate the clone, ALL of the frames end up rotating since the clone section doesn’t have individual keyframes. And the motion track section doesn’t offer the rotation in the keyframes since I didn’t enable rotation initially. I only need to manipulate the rotation of perhaps 10% of the video, so its hardly worth the effort to go back and retrack the entire vid.
Hope this helps clear things up.

Thanks a lot! This worked well and saved me from perhaps tons of extra work trying to figure out what to do.

Hi Dave,
I haven’t done the update, but I don’t use multiprocessing and GL is turned off. It is interesting to note that my integrated video card does not appear to be GL compatible according to AE’s findings, so I’m wondering if this may be a factor with all of these crashes. Since I don’t have GL enabled anyway, I don’t know if the lack of compatibility makes that much difference.
Based on your prior suggestion, I did resave the MP4’s to uncompressed AVI’s first before processing them. Didn’t seem to make the crashes any less frequent, but still appreciate the suggestion here.

Thanks. I essentially did the splitting arrangement with several duplicates and only processing a small amount of frames each time which did seem to help a lot. I’ll try the other suggestions you mention about memory, etc as I haven’t done that. No, this has happened quite a lot, but it wasn’t really an issue until I decided to delve into deeper editing/ processing of videos. Usually I stuck with only basic things like color enhancement or unsharp masking and there were still crashes but far less frequently.
