January 11, 2019 at 9:44 pm in reply to: suggestions for manual correction and method of portraits taken with 35mm lens?Dominic, thanks for your response. Well, I actually just tried the Zeiss a little while ago. I was then faced with two issues: 1)barely enough room for me to still do any camera adjustments and also technically not quite enough distance to get my entire head in frame (my room is just a bit small, but could work if I fiddle a little), and (2) the more serious issue of losing my umbrella flash- since my on camera flash triggers the umbrella flash optically, it’s now too far to do it.
I remember the face aware liquify feature; unfortunately Affinity still doesn’t have it, but they do have the liquify tools.

Well, it looks like I’m simply going to be able to use one of my white walls, although lighting and using the white sheet for high key might be used at a later date. I find speedlights sort of hit and miss, so the speedlight illumination of the sheet will take some trial and error (all manual flashes). Thanks for all the suggestions here, however.

The problem is that I really don’t have anything to hang a sheet. Right now, I actually do have a white sheet draped across a piece of fishing line I strung from wall to wall. Of course no good due to wrinkles. The paper I could just tape up somewhere, maybe even an existing wall. Space is sort of limited, so really didn’t want to have to go and get a proper stand for the sheet. Too bad a closest hanger wouldn’t stretch between walls, but too long.
I like the idea of the foamboard, but seems limited up to about 24×36″. With a kit lens, it will be tough to not have undesired background at the edges. That is, unless I switched out to my prime 135 mm lens. I never thought about using primes for portraits and certainly haven’t tried, so not sure how that would work. Also, less light with the prime. I’m using an umbrella softbox (front closes) with speedlight and I place a white foamboard reflector where needed.

December 23, 2018 at 1:09 pm in reply to: trying to match colored tree water reflectionsI think I’ll probably be able to get by. Problem is, I no longer use Photoshop, but Affinity Photo. Many times, I can follow tutorials meant for Photoshop, but in this case, not quite working out because Affinity still lacks some Photoshop functions. And I don’t yet see a forum here for Affinity, so I couldn’t ask there.
Anyway, thanks for trying to help. I may be able to do it, but won’t be nearly as simple as it would have been in PS.

December 14, 2016 at 9:59 pm in reply to: Any way to create a gradient from an existing image? Thanks for sharing this, Jack. At one point several years back, I might have tried to use that tool to create a decent gradient from a rainbow. Not sure if it could do it that finely, but it may be possible. I wanted to add some Photoshop created rainbows to some photos I had, but I could never quite get the Photoshop gradients to match real rainbows, so I gave up on the project. Tutorials around the web make the process look easy and it is but only if you are satisfied with the “standing out like a sore thumb” Photoshop rainbows because they are so easy to pick out in photos.

December 17, 2015 at 8:22 pm in reply to: create a real looking circular eddy like at the base of waterfalls? Thanks again, Kalle. The clouds technique seems to be working out very well and I think I’ll be able to fashion something from it soon.

Thanks, Ivan, but for now I’ve switched to Virtualdub and deshaker plug-in. This was something I used several years back and had nearly forgotten about it until I started having “out of memory” trouble with this footage and AE. Virtualdub doesn’t seem to have the same issues, although it is creating a huge nearly 200 GB AVI that I will have to compress in either AE or Vegas.

I like it, thanks! One question, where is “fractal clouds” located? I see clouds, but not fractal clouds under filters.
