September 17, 2015 at 11:07 am in reply to: DVD encoding & Authoring trouble, need advice fast pleaseAdobe encore is a good program and works well – there are plenty of tutorials out there to get you started.
Go here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/encore/kb/encore-cs6-installed-cc.htmlAdobe starts by saying:
“Encore is no longer in active development. Encore CS6 was the last version released.
The CS6 applications are still available are part of a Creative Cloud membership. Encore is installed by first installing Premiere Pro CS6, which includes Encore CS6.
This document describes the process of installing Encore CS6.
Note: The ability to install CS6 applications is only available to paid Creative Cloud subscribers and not available with trial memberships…….”
So the DVD is finished is it Adobe – You may be correct – but why not make it easy to download for your customers who don’t believe you.

For those looking for a way to rename files in the Finder BEFORE importing into your NLE, look at this app for Windows or Mac:
https://www.filerenamer.com/It really does what it says on the tin.

November 12, 2014 at 12:26 pm in reply to: How do you combat fluctuating lav mic levels? It would seem your problem is with the release control on your compressor. I don’t know the plug you are using but they all work in the same way except that some are inherently more transparent than others.
First check the ratio – 2:1 – 8:1 is compression – more than 10:1 and you are limiting.
Then set the threshold control – with some compressors you can set this to say -10db below your max signal strength and it will gently hold these loud sections. Then set the release control – this sets the rate at which the compressor will return to the non active state ready for the next high. For speech you can set this quite short, say 125ms. Adjust until the transition from the compressed audio to the quieter stuff is inauable as an effect..
Finally adjust the gain make up (if your plug has an output control) to make up for any loss in overall gain.
Remember that compressors are primarily for transparently decreasing the relationship between the quietist and loudest signals and should be used anywhere you want to narrow this gap.

Having worked with hundreds of AE/PPro linked comps and given the existing very unstable situation with dynamic link, I have found the following simple rules apply.
You must have enough system resources to be able to run AE & PPro side by side. The key to this is sufficient Ram.
Open AE and select/create the AE project to be linked to. Then open PPro and proceed to create comps.
When you create a dynamic link to AE from PPro, the linked comp will always be created in the already open AE project. The benefit is that you will only have one AE project for a given PPro Project making any subsequent re-linking very easy.
By opening/creating an AE project before the PPro project you can target different sequences within a PPro project to different AE projects. Of course you will have to consider your project naming protocols.
I hope this helps.I used to be Jon Hiseman but I’m feeling better now.

I sooooo want this too – right from the project window. When I log a series of clips in PPro I call them by a name I recognise anywhere in the project. When I archive the project I want those names in the Finder. So now I log in the Finder first, changing the names there. It still seems a no-brainer of a feature to me – and I’m long gone from FCP

This is a nasty little bug that I get all the time. Its to do with the last setting you have your program monitor set to before you open the Multi screen. If you have been viewing at 100% and then open a Multiscreen the problem will occur reliably. Go back to a normal sequence, choose 50% view on the program Monitor and then open the Multi screen. Problem gone.
Perhaps a multiscreen should default to showing all the screens whatever your previous settings?I used to be Jon Hiseman but I’m feeling better now.

Michael’s point about keyframing makes sense in that, you cannot expect keyframes to exist where no keyframes were entered, but I would want the 1st frame of a front handle to reflect the data state of the first keyframe which is maybe XX number of frames later. I would think that was normal behaviour. But I would have thought that grades are different and one should have the option to apply them to a specific number of frames as “grade handles.” Sounds like I’m making a feature request. I have only been into Resolve for a few months but needed this feature a couple of times already.

Exactly the same situation here and I have posted about it. I get this “sequence cannot be opened error” any time I go to an authorised computer that has not been used for editing for a couple of weeks( two weeks in the studio and I don’t use the laptop – 3 weeks away and I don’t use the Studio Mac Pro.) And it happened when my CC was cancelled as a fraud precaution. There is no correct message and absolutely no leeway given. Since I signed up to the cloud first month it was advertised I would expect better – much better.

About six weeks ago I booted up PPro to be told that the project was unreadable. OK, Restart MacPro 5,1 – same thing. Went through all the usual charades until 45 mins later my email pinged me. Adobe had been unable to cash my credit card payment for the cloud. Went onto their site, reactivated the cancelled subscription and paid for it – reset to a different card – made a cup of tea – rebooted PPro and the project loaded fine. But no word from Adobe other than that the project was unreadable( PANIC) and belated email after they had apparently tried twice to cash the credit card payment. Mastercard had put a hold on the card following their detection of “unusual activity.” Never found out what that was – card reinstated 2 days later. Adobe must do better.

No, if you have downloaded and installed the CS6 versions of the applications, you will continue to have access to them without interruption as long as your membership remains active. When the next full version of CS becomes available, you will have up to a year to download and install them, and they will run on your computer along with CS6 versions.
OK – so I will upgrade to CS7 when it becomes available and want to download the CS6 installers to archive them for re-install at a later date or when I re-install everything on a new drive. Where are they on the Adobe site? The cloud does not put installers on my drives. I just get app folders. Am I doing something wrong? Can the trial installers be activated by the cloud? I get the impression that the Master suite trial installer does not include everything. Are the individual App folders, installed by the cloud, actually installers that will put all the bits where necessary if you copy them to another drive and boot the app? I for one would like some clear answers. Just had the director of a BBC documentary started in 2005 wanting access to the 3 different FCP edits. No problem – I have the install discs.
