Really can you name the every other NLE’s that have a multiple targeting function. I know FCP and AVID don’t.

HI Jedd I just did a test from my Desktop to my laptop and the render file came through fine. Make sure your Edit>Preferences is setup ‘preview files – same as project’.
That will save the previews in a folder that will be where you save the actual project.(Ext HDD).
If you want rock solid back and forth with the ext. drive make sure you label the letter of the drive the same for all computers it is using.
This is done through; Contol Panel> Performance and Maintainence> Administrative Tools> Computer Management> Storage – Disk Management.
Select the drive right click> Change Drive Letter and Paths> Change. If the letter is not available you may have to change another one.
Setting this up properly when formatting a drive makes a world of difference because the App is always looking at the same pathways to assets/renders etc.

I have to say I’ve only been a cow leader for a week or two and I’m tired of users jumping on with a problem, I offer them a solution and 90% write back blaming PPro for not being FCP or Avid. I work with all 3 time to time and know PPro inside and nearly out. I have learned and used techniques adopted from one to the other. FCP has a large outsourced editor base, but that doesn’t mean my rep as an editor owning operating PPro has dampened my abilities as a fast storyteller.
Is anyone else having this issue of FCP or Avid users asking for advice only to whine they could fix it in the other NLEs in half the time?

I’m not talking about TC. I’m talking about marking your sync points with a numbered marker. Like a clapper or something to that effect. I work with FCP and if the TC breaks you’re just as stuffed as any other NLE when it comes to recapturing. Different programs have different solutions.
I’m offering you a solution to your current app situation. If you’re wishing it was FCP or Avid that’s your wasted energy. PPro is just as powerful if the operator knows it well enough.

Try to get the story cut out of it first. Don’t worry about the fine to music timing until you have shaped the story first. It’s far easier to shave back shots to fit to a certain beat or build up in a song than to get it timed perfect each shot before you move onto the next shot. It’s amazing how many times I’ve cut something and just watched it with the music later and see something fresh that makes it click. There are editing God’s I reckon and they have great ideas to show you when you watch things back over and over again.

Sorry mate, I just followed your process and have not had an issue. It might have something to do with the Axio, but my only suggestion is to reinstall PPro. It sounds like its become corrupted or something. But my PProCS3 is software only and it worked fine as 1080i30fps HDV. It doesn’t seem to be an Premiere Pro based issue.

PS: When I opened the project again it was inside the last folder I had selected. I moved up a folder and was back where I left with all the bins and assets in them. ??? -
NO is the short answer. You can select multiple clips on multiple layers and then ripple delete them;
1. right click, ripple delete
2. shift+delete
3. if the clips are different lengths but you want to extract the in out section of a clip (sing the / shortcut) cut the in out points with the razor (shift+click with razor tool C)
4. ctl+K shortcut to cut through all layers at given in and out points.Snapping to In Out points is Q and W.

You can sync up the clips for sure. You need to dedicate a layer to each camera in a multi-layered sequence so each track is running each camera. Sync the clips with a marker for example. You can do that by double clicking the clips into the source monitor and making a numbered marker (0). Do that for each clip that you know has something in it you can sync the others to. Maybe a sound, or camera flash? Then Select all the clips in each layer right click to synchronise. Ask it to sync by marker number 0. They will all snap in alignment. For the other footage at the end or middle use another numbered marker (1) then sync the same way with the clips that match that section. Or do it with an unnumbered marker (*) and snap them together manually. (drag them to snap marker to marker).
Make a new seq. Drop the ‘setup’ sequence into the new one. Right click it and select multicamera>enable. Goto Window>Multicamera Monitor and edit away.

If you are working in the PPro CS3 native HDV preset there is no other codec you can choose to improve it. It is using the same mpeg2 format it was recorded in so there is no way to make it ‘better’. There is however a 3rd party plugin by cineform called aspectHD. It allows you to work with a preset with an avi wrapper upsampling the colour information from 4:2:0 to 4:2:2 for better colour corrections. It also has a visually lossless generation (exports). You can work more layers of HDV video without rendering. It’s very powerful.

I guess with the bins import yeah that would be cool to do that bin by bin… would get tedious tho.
In Premiere Pro you can import a whole other project. It will come in it’s own bin titled the name of the project imported. Move the bins/clips you want from that and cut/paste or drag into your current project space/bins then delete the imported project bin (minus the stuff you moved).

PS: What settings are you using for the project that’s having issues? Never heard of this problem before in any versions of PPro.
