In Australia we post all TVCs in an MPEG-2 format running at CBR minimum 8MB/sec I tend to give them a High Profile CBR @ 16MB/sec. Our stations get upset if we supply AVI or QT files in DV or Uncompressed, because they have to turn it into an MPEG-2, so they ask that all prodcution co’s provide it that way.
We upload it to a place called DubSat they have a site with specs for upload…

What was the final MB size of your video?
I’d like to know if you can post something that’s say
1024×576 instead of the 1280×720 as there isn’t much difference in the resolution.
But reducing your frame size means you can add more MB/sec = Better picture quality!

In the Audio Mixer UI there is a little triangle twirly to the upper right below they Read drop box for audio track 1.
When this opens you can add effects that apply to the entire track forever. So the fill left will apply to any clip you put into that track. Same with the Right one. You won’t have to effect any clips as the track effect will apply it for you.

Here’s the thing. Video footage is only ever going to be as good as it’s original recorded format. DV is always going to look and behave like DV. Making it Uncompressed, only means you’re making it live inside a different codec. It won’t make it look any different, only make the file size massive! (at least 5 times bigger than the DV file!)

PS: To render/export to Uncompressed you need to ask the export to movie settings to use General\File Type: Microsoft AVI
Then the Video\Compressor: None or Uncompressed UYVY 8-bit

Immediately I can tell you that this ‘bad’ image has been deinterlaced. Meaning the clip has lost half of it’s information. I couldn’t see your ‘good’ image… blank media player. But it is obvious there has been deinterlacing on your output. Check your export settings. Or don’t deinterlace the clip in the timeline. You will see…the interlacing which looks like wiggly lines, that will not show up on a TV. This is the way Video looks if it’s recorded in an interlaced format.

I would definately try to eliminate the possibility that its not the camera’s LCD that was set incorrectly and therefore ruined your perception of what was being recorded.
Playback the camera through a TV monitor. I’m guessing this is going to show the problem is the camera monitoring is set higher than it actually is.
Field monitors are a must for a paid job, unless you have a camera owner operator that knows their equipment inside and out and always checks the camera Monitor and Zebra Settings.
I’d then try to recapture with PPro. The clips you’ve cut should simply be replaced if you offline them (project panel) and then batch capture them…provided they’ve been captured with proper TC and Tape names in Vegas. They’ll update, no replacing necessary!
Another thing you could try is to use the compound arithmetic effect on the clips that are dark and get them to add or screen or even copy themselves. (like compositing a duplicated clip over itself – without having to make a duplicate). Then play with the amount of the desired ‘brightening’ effect.

Not quite sure how to break this to you.
24P recorded in video (not film) is actually recorded into an NTSC 60i with pulldown. The image has the same motion blur as progressive 1/48th like film, but its housed inside an NTSC signal.
That means there is no native way to edit this properly in a PAL project.

I’m always working with this situation and have devised a format for it.
You will need to rename the audio layers.
Audio 1 = Left
Audio 2 = RightGo to the Audio Mixer;
In the renamed Left Layer add the effect – “Fill Left”
In the renamed Right Layer add the effect – “Fill Right”This process makes the entire length of the dedicated Layers to always Mono the Named Channel (Left or Right).
It becomes obvious which clips need to have audio duplicated (copied and pasted) underneath it self to make two audio clips one for the Left and the other for the Right Layer.
