Use Export>Adobe Media Encoder…
This will open up the export presets for mp4, h.264 and the aac audio format. Flash Video too.
Going to Export>Movie is not really used anymore as AME has it all and more.

Hi Matt,
The source monitor shows you the media in its native shape. If it’s square pixel and the project is 0.9 that is a difference and that will cause the edge oddness. You need to know what the media is and match that in the project before you even begin. I’d say that the footage is square pixel which is 1. The Monitor is showing how the frame set to 0.9 looks with square pixel footage inside it. Because the difference is there the pillar boxing occurs. If PProCS3 is telling you the project must be Desktop then the project you were using was not a preset that PPro uses natively. It seems you opened the project file not imported it. Importing won’t set desktop or anything like that. The project is built, the import will force fit the project already open.
I’m uploading a video about this sort of thing on youtube. It should uploaded in an hour or so (100MB).
Check out my youtube site– Jon Barrie 😉
PS: Basically the project settings need to match the media settings. v6 may have been working with 640×480 footage which is different to 720×480, the difference in size wide wise is leaving a gap on the edges as the media is in the center. Match the media to a project even if you need to make a desktop/custom one to match your media.

Hey Roberta,
Keying is whats killing your rendering. I’d be cautious of how much you do in a Keying environment. There are no short cuts. You need a faster computer. You can render out chunks and patch it back together with the AE keyed bits done as a seperate job with another computer over a network.

Hi Matt,
It sounds like you have started a CS3 project with 16:9 and using 4:3 footage. because of the difference in the width it’s not stretching to the widescreen width.
Try this…
Start a new project, using DV NTSC 48K. SO the project is 4:3 in shape.
Import the project you have from Prem 6.
Open the sequence the edit is in.
Let me know if that has fixed your problem?– Jon Barrie 😉
PS: Save this project as a different name… with _CS3 on the end or something so you don’t destroy the v6 project file – for saftey.

October 2, 2008 at 1:17 am in reply to: How to Rerender just a portion of a video clip in an already rendered videoHi Stal,
The work area is the thick grey bar on the top of the timeline. if you zoom in and then double click on it the in and out or beginning and end of it will snap to the width of the view you are looking at. zoom out and you’ll see the work area has shrunk. this the only area that will be rendered.
You can set the work area in/out by grabbing the ends and dragging them to where you want them. Or you can position the CTI (Playhead) for the in point and hit alt+[, this will snap the in point to the CTI, find the out point with the CTI then hit alt+], this will snap the out point of the work area bar to the CTI.– JOn Barrie 😉

Hi Brian,
Only cs3 saved projects from a PC will open on cs3 on a mac.
– Jon Barrie 😉PS: features effects and other things might get lost if you open a PPro 1 project into CS3. So be careful or at least aware. When you save as a cs3 project on PC take that to the mac version.

Hi Jiri, I’ve been using this system of coloured labelling for sometime now it’s great for colour correcting and finding all instances of clips, however I’ve been requesting that cs4 have the ability to select the master clip in the project panel and have the select all instances in the timeline, like using the colours except it grabs it by the clips source name.

I shoot in HDV and cut in DV, using the cameras downconvert to capture. I use the scene detect feature with the DV capture to get the breakdown of each stop/start getting each stop/start as a separate clip. Once I cut it ‘offline’ I will open a new project for HDV, and import a trimmed offline using media manager and recapture everything again for online.
If you are only using the footage in SD anyway this method won’t be needed for an online project. But the tapes are still HDV for you client.
So I’d suggest recapturing with down convert to DV switched on. Editing with DV clips.

September 28, 2008 at 2:28 pm in reply to: How to capture footage Mini DV Method QuestionSo you are recommending that I use one project for capturing, correct?
Yes
Then there use the feature, scene detect to archive the data for permanent storage but will eliminate its immediate access reducing resource overhead…. correct?
…I think that’s what I was saying. If you don’t have all the captured clips, which be added to the project once captured (by default), in the project then the project size won’t bloat out and become unstable. If you use the “make offline” function and make sure “keep on disk” is ticked then you won’t delete them from the captured hard drive only stop PPro from having them in the project. You’ll then have a heap of reference batch list style offline reference clips. Delete them too if you want.
If this is a correct intreptation, I will go read up on scene detect. Is this done after the capture is completed or during capture or able during both?
Scene detect will chop up the capture whenever the tape stop/started during shooting. It captures everything but separates the clips into each stop/start (only on PC version – mac version makes subclips and has the entire capture as one non-stop mov file).
