How to Rerender just a portion of a video clip in an already rendered video
Hi,
I just finished rendering a 2 hour video for 12 hrs. Then I find that one of the chapters has a wrong video clip in it. So I reopen the rendered video in Premiere CS3 and “lift” the bad chapter. Then replaced the gap with the good video.
My problem is, I don’t want Premiere to spend another 12 hrs rendering the whole things. So what do I need to do to have premiere just render only the portion of the clip that I added and save time?
Please don’t tell me Premiere cannot accomodate this because re-edits has gotta be a common mistake without suffering the consequences of long re-render time…

Set your work area and tell Premiere to “render work area” in the export dialogue.

If your output is DVD and you put all your eggs in one sequence, yes you will probably need to render the whole thing again.
One can get creative with an app like VideoRedo and stitch just the rendered work area into the existing Mpeg file, but that is fraught with pitfalls.I would typically create at least 3 or 4 Mpeg files from as many sequences for Encore, just for your reason. This will be easier with CS4’s batch encoding.

Yes, I did have all my eggs in one basket. Following an earlier advice, I strung together 32 video clips into 1 seq. This problem was in 1 of the clips.
Please forgive my ignorance, I thought work area in AP was the entire “work area” not just a portion of a video on the sequence/timeline. So, is there a way to just activate only a portion of the clip in the timeline and render workarea such that AP doesn’t redo the whole seq?
I also thought rendering workarea is like rendering all sequences, as opposed to the active seq? Please clarify.Thanks,

Hi Stal,
The work area is the thick grey bar on the top of the timeline. if you zoom in and then double click on it the in and out or beginning and end of it will snap to the width of the view you are looking at. zoom out and you’ll see the work area has shrunk. this the only area that will be rendered.
You can set the work area in/out by grabbing the ends and dragging them to where you want them. Or you can position the CTI (Playhead) for the in point and hit alt+[, this will snap the in point to the CTI, find the out point with the CTI then hit alt+], this will snap the out point of the work area bar to the CTI.– JOn Barrie 😉
