No. RT.X100 can’t ingest or edit in native 24pA. That will have to be an Adobe software preset. The footage is probably embedded in 29.97 so it works there, but not many cameras actually shoot in true 24P, which is really 23.978 no actually 24.

Search for other users of the camera you wich to shoot on and look for editing workflows they’ve used and got to work with Premiere Pro.

Are you sure all your scratch and cache disks are set up on the same drive which keeps the same letter every time you move to another computer. If you are using mac, then going to Pc and back you will run into problems as mac doesn’t recognise drives by their letter as PC does.

PS: Don’t have all the files in folders on the drive. Use PPro to sort out your files. I have a max breakdown of media on the drive into groups of Images, Video, Audio, Renders this way all video should link up from the one folder location and the images are all in the one location etc. Name your files properly to keep ontop of which media is what and organise in the NLE otherwise the drive is scattered and so it NLE looking for media.How many editors does it take to change a light bulb?

Yes keep working with one project. 40 hours of tape is quite a lot of footage. I’d probably be selecting out the bits that are not worth capturing and capture only the decent stuff.
If you have all 40 hours of tape in one project it might become unstable. So if you want a project with heaps of captured stuff but not inside the project. You can capture the whole tapes, with the scene detect feature, so if there is a part that’s crap, the whole take, you can offline it/them and delete from the hard drive too.
Or you can offline a heap of clips, do not delete and they will no longer fill up the ram for running the project, but still be on the hard drive.

There plenty of workflow updates, further speed and workflow enhancements with DLink AE, Encore and PPro. Like Mike said the BG rendering App AME is well worth the upgrade.
BTW, Adobe won’t be providing any CS3 updates. Once the new s/ware is announced foreget any updates on older apps.

From what I’ve seen using a laptop running 64-bit Vista and several apps at once with 4gig ram. They were running all together and nicely.
I’m converting once my CS4 arrives.

Is there a KB shortcut to temporarily toggle to the hand tool (other than hitting “H”)? When I’m zoomed in on the timeline and want to slide the view back or forth, right now I have to hit “H”, drag, then hit “V” or whatever to get back to what I was doing.

If this is all that is needed other than to move up and down layers the scroll wheel on the mouse allows you to move along the timeline without moving the CTI so you can see a little earlier or later than the space you are looking at.

Technically PProCS4 is not a “64-bit” app. But its fully supported with Vista 64. I’ve seen it run on V64 and it is fast and solid with 7 other Adobe apps open in the background on a laptop with 4G Ram.
I’m moving to Vista64 having seen this demo.

If you’re on a PC the only options are:
1. Recapture HDV
2. Get your friend to use Media Manager in FCP to recompress the footage into a PC friend codec like..Animation, PNG or ProRes – which you need to get the codec for from mac.com…blah blah blah (google it).
ProRes will allow you to work with the footage, but it will hit your CPU as its not natively supported.
I’d recapture in HDV using the EDL/s and a batch list of what’s offline for batch capture.
Sadly, HDV apple is only for apple. No PC love with this codec. You can see it if you have VLC on the PC, but can’t edit it.

Since version PPro1 AKA Prem7, the ability to pan left and right view width by view width using the up and down arrows has and still is there. I’ve been requesting the ability to use the mouse to go up/down the layers with mouse wheel and left/right with shift key down and mouse wheeel in action. It might happen in an update 4.1
Btw, there is a new feature with the zoom to fit key “\”. If you are zoomed in, hit \ then jump all the way out, move CTI to new point in time, hit \ again and you are zoomed in at same amount in new position in timeline. How’s that grab ya?

Check the PPro titler. It’s got heaps of templates for what your looking for refered to as Lower Thirds.
