Keeping media links alive moving between computers CS3
As many do I am working 9-5 on one computer then transfer project to a Lacie USB and take home to work on same project.
I am careful to keep drive letter the same and export project and I thought keep all source files in the same relative folder. As I am only working on small desktop files for internet I really thought this would be simple!
I am reaching for valium everytime I open project on either computer where I end up manually linking 100 files.. GETS old pretty quick! The project remains on the Lacie with it fully rendered before I transfer but alas I reopen on other computer and met with the red tiles of discontent!
I have tried searching here and on google and just end up getting more confused. I try and see this logically but to no avail.
Any help may avoid me metaphorically having a cow… please?

Are you sure all your scratch and cache disks are set up on the same drive which keeps the same letter every time you move to another computer. If you are using mac, then going to Pc and back you will run into problems as mac doesn’t recognise drives by their letter as PC does.

PS: Don’t have all the files in folders on the drive. Use PPro to sort out your files. I have a max breakdown of media on the drive into groups of Images, Video, Audio, Renders this way all video should link up from the one folder location and the images are all in the one location etc. Name your files properly to keep ontop of which media is what and organise in the NLE otherwise the drive is scattered and so it NLE looking for media.How many editors does it take to change a light bulb?

Jon, thankyou so much for your advice here!!! I have had a Eureka moment! Issue solved so I now have more than half a cow’s chance of getting this project done.
So many tools, so many possibilities… so little time…
