What you are experiencing is a FAT32 formatted Harddrive. It has a limit of 4Gig per file. If you are using a PC you need to reformat the drive to NTFS. If you are on a Mac you need to reformat to MacOS Extended to capture unlimited file sizes.
The other thing you can do is capture the tapes with scene detect so everytime the camera was stopped started PPro will make a new file while continuing to capture. 4 Gig in Dv is about 20mins.
But you’re drive is FAT32. This is normal behavior.

This is a very old system now. I’d look to purchasing a new system, upgrades won’t last long. This is a limited Hard Drive desktop too IDE is not sufficient SATA is the norm. Hard Drive size and speeds are crucial for Video Editing so the 80Gig will only fit the OS and the Adobe software. Video Editing is never recommended to run from the same physical drive (not on partitions) as the one holding the software. P4 was a great intel cpu, but way behind nowadays. Especially for CS4. You’ll be best to run with a Core2Duo minimum.
Work out your budget and repost with the kind of work you want to do, hours of video you expect to work with, DV or HDV footage?

Are you running FCP/PPro?
Are you using Compressor?
PPro uses Adobe Media Encoder to compress MPEG-2 for DVD Authoring.
PPro has a tick box for deinterlacing in the AME UI top left corner (CS3).
If you are exporting a QT mov file from PPro to use in Compressor you are wasting time and HDD space. but this process will allow you to deinterlace too. Untick that function.What is your workflow?

Biggest quality loss is in deinterlacing. That removes half the resolution, causing jaggy edges.
Keep the field dominance the same as the oringinal footage. HD based formats are upper field first, but check that your camera records this way. (google).
HD will always look cleaner and better than down res’d DVD. Then if its watched on a computer the resolution of the computer screen is higher than the DVD, a HDTV again higher screen res than DVD signal = DVD picture blow up, which makes the imperfections of compression more noticeable.
1st thing. Don’t deinterlace.

I don’t know what kind of Tech you spoke to, but that’s baloney. FW is one of the most stable/speed efficient ways of ingesting and transferring data. I guess the cable connections aren’t as robust as SDI or 422 but that’s only becuase they are for broadcast and cannot afford to be yanked out by mistake with a busy Edit/OB setup so they can be ‘screwed’ into their sockets.
USB is not a solid way to work. FW is and has been for a long time, it still remains even in its older 400MB state an extremely stable and consistent cable.Jon Barrie

The default is actually “Alt” +[ ], but yeah go into the Keyboard and make it what you want.

To render a AE comp or anything that has a yellow or green bar you need to set the work area around it and goto Sequence>Render work area.
Hitting Enter Key only renders something with effects that make the bar completely red.

Make sure the tape has been rewound. I found this problem pop up sometimes if the tape timecode read the ending of the last out point marked to be captured. Try rewinding the tape and trying to batch again.
