I too found this issue with the most updated drivers. I am pushing one of my workstations to its absolute last use of life and found the graphics card needed to use an older driver for CS4 to consistently show the images. Once I got the right driver it hasn’t dropped once.

I don’t think you want to have a debate about the Dynamic Link feature. But by stating that it doesn’t work is fuel for a debate.I use CS3 and CS4 and have found CS4 to absolutely use Dynamic Link way more effectively.
The new approach to sending selected media to an AE comp that has already the correct format, length and all items at the head of the comp not as far from the beginning as it was in the Premiere Pro timeline position is far faster a process than I could ever get out of CS3.
On my Core2Duo laptop I found the unrendered playback was pretty amazingly good. To render the clips was not such a big deal. The fact that I didn’t need to render out a clip and use up HDD space and only needed to render out a final project for client approval/alterations list still means I just jump in and it updates the changes in Preimere Pro instantly. Then I re-export it with the alts, no rendering from AE. That’s what the feature claims and it delivers for me exactly what I expected and a little more.
In all the responses you gave after Vince tried to explain his perspective you never mentioned your hardware. If you are running a P4 PC or an iMac then you are probably expecting too much from your hardware.
You need a Core2Duo minimum. Quad would be most beneficial. Now with the i7(Quad Core with HT for 8-Effective calculating cores) you should be laughing. The GFX card makes a difference. Then there’s the RAM amount. Are you running Vista Ultimate 64-bit? Are you running with SATA Drives in a RAID config? How far away are your computer’s specs from the recommended Adobe system setup?
You never explained the complexity of your AE comp. That’s obviously going to create a heap of lag and RAM clogging if it’s doing a lot.
If you can advise on the specs you are running we can probably give you the real world feelback you desire.

Just to clarify, ProRes is a codec that can be read on PC’s too. It can’t be written to ProRes from a PC. (Download decoder from apple.com)
Matrox is not a Graphics Card. It’s a RT Hardware Card that does ingest,output and handles dedicated effects, renders in RT directly doing the calculations itself away from the CPU or GPU.

3. YesIf you do much AE work then PPro’s integration can’t be matched.
FCP needs its own Codec because it can’t read new camera codecs natively and probably never will. Which means everything needs to be a QT mov file. Thus ProRes.
There are positives and negatives on all sides. Adobe has many options that suit certain projects using multi-apps projects better. Adobe is cross platform, FCP aint, and the files it makes that are not ProRes (ie AppleHDV) can only be read on a Mac with FCP installed.I use FCP and PPr. Most of my work is streamlined when I am working in PPro. Now that PPro can import FCP XML I think I’ll be doing all finishing with Full Adobe Suite.

Provided the entire Folder structure has been copied over the clips should come into PPro.
FCP can’t import XDCAM footage as it is from the camera. It needs to be converted to a QT.mov file in FCP 6 via Convert and Transfer under Log and capture in the File Menu of FCP.
Make sure you have the entire folder structure. If there a foler or part missing the whole XDCAM footage can’t be used.

Ok. I’ll concede that I thought I was using 5.1 WAVs in Encore. Turns out I was thinking about the Stereo WAVs. 5.1 needs to be compressed for Encore. My apologies.
If you have the 5.1 WAV and it sounds clean – great. Technically I’m assuming that this file doesn’t require any more filters. If so then you have a clean WAV to use.
If you open the WAV in the source monitor you can then export the surcode from there.
Should all work then.

I’d say that the problem is a conflict of some sort with either your computers hardware and the use of the filters while using the surcode export.
Is the file you are working with a single 5.1 surround file or is it made up of other tracks that are being submixed into a 5.1 master output track?
FCP has a painful 5.1 export system I doubt you’ll find it easier. I’m certain this problem you are having is an anomaly.
I do my cleaning in Soundbooth or Audition. Do the Surround MIX in Audition. Export it as a 5.1 WAV. Import the Perfectly clean 5.1 WAV into Premiere Pro and export the single 6 channel mixed file with surcode and never had a problem.
I’d say there is a conflict in the surcode compressor being able to sample and resample with the filters on. Just get the audio setup so the filters aren’t needed for the export to surcode.

Have you exported the audio into a clean version without the need for any Filters?
Then done the export via surcode? If so there is a problem you need to address with surcode about the codec corrupting the clean uncompressed audio you are using.
Like I mentioned earlier, I don’t need to use 5.1 very often. But few times I’ve had to use it I never had an issue with extra noises.
Surcode might be able to help you with the problem, it might be on there site and have a fix. Only problem is you’ll need to purchase the license to keep working on getting your solution.Jon Barrie

Is it at all possible the mixer panel had that layer on mute?

If you are using 5.1 – you’ll need to export it from PPro using the Surcode Dolby Digital export setting. You get 3 exports for free, then you need to pay for the license. Not many clients I work with need 5.1, it sounds like its cool, but unless they are really going to show it on a full surround system, it’s wasted. Drama uses 5.1 (7.1 really) to make audiences feel surrounded by the scene. Most situations really don’t need surround sound.
Once you export the 5.1 in Dolby Digital Encore will import that file.Jon Barrie
