Problems capturing to external harddrive
For my latest project I need to capture 8 dv tapes to an external hard drive. The drive holds a total of 750 gigs and there’s about 600 gigs of available space. The tapes together will be about 110 gigs which is too large to fit on my regular hard drive (I started capturing to that drive but gave up after the 3rd tape and I started a new project on my external to capture with). Now when I try capturing to the external hard drive, I set the destination to that drive (which says 600 gigs available), and I start capturing, but it only captures about 4 gigs worth of footage then says theres not enough space. Is premier possibly mixing up my external with my normal hard drive?

What you are experiencing is a FAT32 formatted Harddrive. It has a limit of 4Gig per file. If you are using a PC you need to reformat the drive to NTFS. If you are on a Mac you need to reformat to MacOS Extended to capture unlimited file sizes.
The other thing you can do is capture the tapes with scene detect so everytime the camera was stopped started PPro will make a new file while continuing to capture. 4 Gig in Dv is about 20mins.
But you’re drive is FAT32. This is normal behavior.

thanks so much! Its converting now (i dont feel like deleting all the files on my drive, so im just converting it)
