I have used the various versions of Premiere Pro on a lop top with very good results. This included using G-Tech Raid 0 drives for the project and media.

However I have steeped up to a Dell T7400 work station and all operation heck is breaking loose.

    Windows XP 32 bit SP3
    4 Gigs Ram
Dual 2.5 Ghz Quad core proccesors
SAS 10,000 rpm raid 0 drives for the “C”drive.
Lacie Firewire 800 card to run the G-tech drives
G-tech E-sata ES array with esata rocket raid card
nVidia 8800 512 GTS card with current drivers

I edit HDV from a Canon XHA1 using Cineform Aspect HD
Premiere Pro CS3 updated to 3.2.0

Footage is captured with HD link and plays fine in windows media player, but tying to import the video cause the program to crash. sometimes with a fatal error message, other times the program simply disappears. This also happens when rendering an already established time line or trying to export a finished project. It is so bad, the system is completely unuseable.

There are no Windows XP warnings or errors and programs like AE work fine.

I have done most of the things mentioned in the various posts, such as:

Making sure the rendering preference is set to “Memory””

    Using the 3 GB switch

    Uninstalling, and reinstalling Premiere

Stating the Program with the Shift key down,

    Dumping Premiere Peferences

Running MSconfig and stopping unneeded BG programs.

I have only Cineform, and the Adobe CS3 Production Prem package installed on the computer.

I have tried to place the Media Cache and Program on the “C” drivee with only the media on the external drive.

I have tried to edit with the Program on one G-Tech drive and the Media on another drive.

I have tried to edit off the G-Tech drives where the program and the media are both on the external drive.

The ONLY THING that works is to place the Premiere program and the media on the “C” SAS drive array. This however isn’t an option because of the amount of footage I have, and SAS drives don’t come in much over 300 GB.

Why doesn’t the external raid arrays operate now like the used to?

I edited for the last 3 years with the Alienware single P4 laptop without much of a problem – so I must be missing something, and a hardware conflict seems the most likely,

    Can someone please help???

    Thanks in advance

    Greg

Could be an issue with AspectHD version too. Post on there aswell.

You could try to re-install windows and not include all the extra software that seems to be pre-loaded on laptops. I could not upgrade to CS4 on one system and could on a another – reinstalling windows allowed the upgrade to be installed – so it wasn’t the hardware so much as some driver or dll that was the culprit.

The fix of last resort – I know.
