What is your HDD speed (5400 or 7200 rpm) most laptops come with a 5400rpm that will hit your render speed. Desktop could have a RAID 0 HDD config which will speed it all up compared to laptop.
Laptop CPUs are not as quick as a comparable (Core2Duo) Desktop CPU.
RAM is probably a slower read/speed. If you are using same drive on laptop to run OS/Apps/Media that will bottle neck everything down again. It’s not surprising it’s slower really. That’s why Desktop editing is still around, the laptops can do it – just not as fast.

There is no magic setting to use the AE RAM in your PPro timeline. The RAM is limited and it doesn’t contain much, when it comes to render it uses the RAM to hold the Apps processing and dumps the Rendered Video from itself.
You can use the ram preview from AE as a clip. Save the RAM preview out as a clip then replace it with the DL comp in the PPro timeline.

Matt, this seems to be one of those codecs that only the app that made it can actually do anything with it. I had a quick look on the web for the codec and a way to convert it. I couldn’t find anything. just because it’s video doesn’t mean it was intended or can actually be edited.
Try downloading the codec and working out if AE or PPro can see it.read this for more horror stories about others trying to use this codec.

Dynamic Link has never been sold as a function that speeds up render times. Rendering is always going to be required that’s the nature of video.
Dynamic Link allows me to keep my options open. I can send edits and layers of PS titles, images etc directly to AE and do my compositing immediately. How many processes are involved when working with AE and FCP… too many for my time.
Using DL means I get to move into another app – like AE or Encore immediately. I don’t need to make my final transcodes until the design and flow of what I’m producing is decided.
If an AE comps is less than simple, (PPro can play out simple AE comps without the need to render) then I’ll render it out of AE and replace it in PPro.
No one said that Dynamic Link means no render times – just not so many times.
If you are using DL in PPro and want to render, it needs to look at the AE comp/s and translate all that information using the AE engine, then put it all into the PPro App, there is alot of calculating required to keep it all going from one App to the next. It’s no wonder it takes a long time to render.
Think of DL as a way of working faster with proxies not advanced AE comps and you’ll have less frustration.

You can set the export settings to Progressive and that will sort the issue out for you. Run some tests, first you don’t need to deinterlace any clips for the progressive export setting to work, doing so might create some odd results, but test it.
Try doing a test against the Max Quality Setting ticked on export and your sequence too.

Have you tried to untick the XML option from the Encoder settings interface? That will help.
Animated stuff does take time to calculate, effects also need calculating, the XML function will be slowing you down the most.

PS: CS3 didn’t have Encoder as a separate app.
If you have AE you would use the Render Queue, it’s a little quicker in my experience, but using Dynamic Link is another show slower. Import your PPro Project into AE and render using AE’s Render Queue is another option.Jon Barrie

It’s fine. Mono is what you need to make it go out to both L and R channels. the fill left fill right function is a stereo effect in the stereo bin in the effects panel. Nothing wrong. if you want to mix the pan of L and R out of the Mono then I suggest you look it up as it requires using track pan editing with the audio mixer. (tricky to explain)

Based on the description of the result it sounds like the sequence settings are not a match for the footage. The zoomed in look of the clips as they come into the sequence would indicate the sequence frame size is set smaller than the frame size of the clip.
Try to make a new sequence and select the HDV 1080i setting and throw some clips in there to see if the result is the same.

The usual online process is to take the edited EDL and recapture with a batch capture of the clips that were used in the edit only. So I’d recommend you select all the clips in the project panel and try to batch capture them all , that way they are going to reconnect everything automatically.
