I have a new Acer Aspire6930G laptop that renders really slow compared to my older tower.

Laptop specs: Intel core 2 Duo p8600 2.4ghz
    4 Gig Ram
    Windows Vista: 64bit

My older machine only has 2gig of ram and runs xp, but renders twice as fast.

This is my first laptop so maybe it’s a laptop thing, or a vista thing.

    Thanks!

What is your HDD speed (5400 or 7200 rpm) most laptops come with a 5400rpm that will hit your render speed. Desktop could have a RAID 0 HDD config which will speed it all up compared to laptop.
Laptop CPUs are not as quick as a comparable (Core2Duo) Desktop CPU.
RAM is probably a slower read/speed. If you are using same drive on laptop to run OS/Apps/Media that will bottle neck everything down again. It’s not surprising it’s slower really. That’s why Desktop editing is still around, the laptops can do it – just not as fast.

Ya its 5400. I am using external ESATA hard drives for all the video storage which seems to work great concerning copy speed and reading. I thought 4gig of RAM and a 2.4Ghz Core 2duo would be enough to consider, but I didn’t take the HDD speed into account when purchasing this laptop.

    Thanks!
