    Thanks Nate,
What 2.5 enclosures are you “happiest” with?

I will take any and all responses! Are you editing with these drives or just using them for file management? I would not use these as primary drives, but under certain circumstances it would be useful to have a bus powered drive fast enough to do edit with.

    thanks,

How is the downscaling quality, and what are you using for media drives?

So the Powerbook screen is your FCP screen and the Cinema Display is your “program” monitor? Do you use the ACD as both desktop and “monitor”, looking at a larger full rez picture as needed or is it a dedicated HD monitor? Are you working exclusively in HD, and any work flow issues that you’ve had to deal with using this set-up? The MXO seems like a pretty nifty device, and as I do a fair amount of location editing I’m considering going with a MacBook Pro for my next upgrade, so thanks for your input.

    Thanks,

    John

How are you monitoring the HD picture on your G4?

It’s been awhile but I remember needing to set the shutter to compensate for the flicker. 1/50th? Or was that just with florescent lights? I was in Italy last November with my DSR-450 shooting a conference, and there were no problems with stage lighting. Who are you renting lights from and what country are you shooting in? I would consult them, or if you have a major rental house in your area (like Rule Broadcast in Boston) I would call them.

On another note, how much gear are you bringing with you? An HVX-200 may fly under the radar, but if you’re bringing light kit, audio kit, and a fair amount of gear, you may want to get a carnet. It makes getting gear in and out of foreign countries pretty easy.

Yeah… what you said. I’m not advocating it but one reason might be file size and ease of use. Often my graphic artist will send me several examples of a style in powerpoint, because when I send it to my client they don’t go “huh? what was that thing you sent me? It didn’t open.” Lots of corporate types are extremely ingorant about video and graphic files, even people that should know better. How often have you asked for a logo and got the .gif file version?

You can do this in PowerPoint. You’ll need to add the audio track to play during slide show. Then there is a way to “rehearse” the show and add cues. I think it records the timings and then you can Play Show to get playback. Sorry I can’t be more specific but I think investing 15 minutes with the ppt help guide would put you straight. Good luck.

Well, know I feel a little stupid. I didn’t think to re-install the drivers because the driver has not been updated since May of ’06, and since it never made it to a spot where I chose a printer I assumed it was not a specific driver. BUT… it’s working. Thanks again to the COW for helping me out.

April 17, 2007 at 1:18 pm in reply to: FCP crashes & won’t open

Thanks, I just tried that, same thing. FCP gets as far as asking me for a default setting, and then the spinning ball. I’ve backed up the files, I’m going to nuke the system drive and re-install, as I don’t know what else to do. I did a system install last night (archive the current sytem folder) with no change at all. All external drives are off. wierd…
