That streaking is called “interlacing” and it is how TV’s display video (one field at a time). Since YouTube is not a TV set you should always deinterlace any footage targeted at a web device. Just render progressive and you should see a big improvement.

Vegas doesn’t support Matroska files. You will need to convert them into something Vegas does support.

Sorry I didn’t see this thread earlier. I didn’t have time to check the forums while out at NAB 2009. (…and still catching my breath) 😉
Just to clear things up, Production Assistant is based on some of the Ultimate S technology and was create by VASST for Sony (hence the Powered by VASST logo on the box). It is specifically solving a different problem than US, Excalibur & Veggie toolkit. While the former are interactive tools or batch rendering tools, Production Assistant is all about hands-off process automation.
If you create standard format videos like daily shows or weekly shows or even same day events, Production Assistant can reduce hours of editing and assembly down to minutes. It pays for itself in the first day or two of use. It does this by allowing you to create templates with media slugs of your projects and then selecting a template and only the media that changes from project to project and it assembles a new project from the template substituting the real media for the slugs. We have already developed a workflow that was shown at the NAB Vegas Users Party last Monday night that creates skydiving same day event videos with only inserting the memory card and naming the folder to capture the media. The next thing you have is a complete project complete with intros, music, etc. ready to burn to DVD… totally hands off and fool proof!
Production Assistant also has process automation capabilities not found in other tools. You can create process workflows like adding network bugs or logos, then an 16:9 animated underlay to 4:3 media, then capturing representative thumbnails, etc. and save all of those steps as a preset workflow. Then with one click of a button process hundreds of files applying each process in the workflow and then rendering to multiple output formats. Once again saving hours of valuable editor’s time and paying for itself in the first couple of uses.
There will be quick start videos published on the Sony site once the product is available so you can see the workflows that this tool addresses. It does not negate the need for tools like Ultimate S or Excalibur. While it does contain some of the interactive tools from Ultimate S, it is all about hands-off automation which no other tool addresses.

Hi Fotis,
We have Ultimate S Pro 4 working with Vegas Pro 9.0 in 32-bit and 64-bit mode and have been demoing it at NAB 2009 all this week. It is also backward compatible with Vegas Pro 8.0 and 8.1. We actually held off releasing the 8.1 64-bit update because we wanted to be sure that it worked in 9.0 64-bit as well. The update will be available for download before Vegas Pro 9.0 ships.

You didn’t say what the format of your source video is. If it’s HD it takes a lot more processing power than DV. If it’s AVCHD it takes even more than that. You really need a quad-core to work with AVCHD at good frame rates and even then it may get choppy.

RAM preview is when Vegas renders to memory instead of a file. You use this to quickly see how a small selection of the timeline looks at full frame rate when normally you cannot play back at full frames.

That depends on what formats your FLV converter can handle. Render them back to AVCHD if it will handle that. Otherwise Quicktime Animation or Uncompressed would maintain your quality.

Yea… well… Vegas has never been very good at ripped movies and this is intentional. You’ll need to find another tool for this activity.

Then you need to find a way to convert all of these formats to something Vegas can edit. Try Super(c)… try MPEG Slipstream, try anything you can find until you find one that does the conversion for you. That’s your only other option.

Vegas does not support DivX or Xvid. Stop using these codecs and your problems will go away (unless, of course, you switch to another codec that Vegas doesn’t support). 😉
If you are looking to render as MP4 try the MainConceopt AVC or Sony AVC formats.

Right-click on the track and insert a Volume envelope. Then create points in the envelope by double-clicking it and adjust the points to the new volume.

You can’t. Vegas only allows you to set the time signature for the whole project.

Nope. You really need Sony ACID for this kind of work.

Vegas has a metronome. Just record it as a wav file at the tempos you need.
