    > Drag & Drop does not mean intuitive in the case of DVD Architect Pro 5.

Yes, it is all relative to your frame of reference. The last time I saw Pinnacle Studio was around version 8 but back then you authored your DVD from the timeline. To me, that is the most unintuitive interface I could imagine. A DVD is hierarchical and authoring it on a linear timeline made no sense to me. But some people love it… so it’s all a matter of reference. 😉

By comparison, I opened Adobe Encore CS4 and it presented me with a blank interface. I was clueless as what to do next. I eventually figured out that you had to select new menu and then import your assets before you could use them and then drag and drop but it was not intuitively obvious.

In DVD Architect you start with a menu and a title. I change the title, drag my move onto the menu and press Burn. It doesn’t get any easier than that! (OK, maybe Ulead DVD Movie Factory is easier because it’s all “wizard” based) lol.

Point well taken… “one man’s intuitive interface is another man’s blank screen”.

May 25, 2009 at 4:19 pm in reply to: Multiple Chroma Keying Glitch? help

It might have something to do with the codecs you are using. One solution would be to render out the chroma keyed clips as Quicktime Animation using 32bit. This will preserve the alpha channel generated by the chroma key. It will also speed up your final render significantly.

When you bring the Quicktime files back into Vegas you may have to right-click and select properties and set the alpha channel on the Media tab to Straight (unmatted).

    May 25, 2009 at 3:54 pm in reply to: Sony Vegas 9 – 1920×1080 H.264

    > Could someone who _understands_ the question give some insight on it?

    Sure… 😉

Answer: Use the Sony AVC (*.mp4;*.m2ts;*.avc) render type and select the AVCHD 1920×1080 NTSC template.

Insight: There are two render types that support H.264. The Main Concept AVC and the Sony AVC. As the templates imply, the Main Concept is good for Apple iPod output and other small formats, and the Sony is good for Blu-ray, AVCHD, PSP, and general HD Internet output. Use the one that is best suited to your delivery format.

    > Correction, I use Sony Vegas 9 Studio Platinum Pro(what a mouth full) :).

Correction (‘cuz it’s still not right): you are using Vegas Movie Studio 9 “Platinum Pro Pack”. The “Pro Pack” is just a set of extra software that is thrown into the deal and does not change the base Movie Studio Platinum software. There is absolutely no difference between this and the regular Movie Studio Platinum meaning it is not the “pro” version. The “Platinum” means that it handles HD. Regular Movie Studio is SD only. So you have the HD version of Movie Studio 9.

    > I found the HD MPEG4 render option. Unfortunately it only does 1440×1080 with no option to change the resolution to 1920×1080.

Try using the Sony AVC (*.mp4;*.m2ts;*.avc) render type and select the AVCHD 1920×1080 NTSC template. This is the same format as your Sony SR11 camera.

  • I just tried your steps and it works for me. Use the right channel and added volume. No problem.

May 25, 2009 at 2:40 pm in reply to: Vegas 8, Vista & HuffyUV

    > I downloaded the Huffyuv 2.2.0 codec and put the .DLL file into program files/sony/vegas, but still no enjoy!

The correct way to install Huffyuv is to right click on huffyuv.inf and select “Install”.

Huffyuv 2.2.0 is the first version that works on Vista. Huffyuv 2.1.1 and earlier do not.

May 24, 2009 at 11:31 pm in reply to: Vegas 9 pro and Boris/Prodad?

    > Did anybody get the new Vegas 9 Pro working together with Boris FX and Boris Graffitti? I can’t see these plugins in Vegas 9, neither as FX, transition or generated Media.

Boris doesn’t support Vegas Pro 9.0 yet and they don’t support 64-bit either.

    > Furthermore, Mercalli (Prodad) is present in the FX tab, but selecting Mercalli (without adding it to the timeline) is sufficient to crash Vegas 9. Is this already known by the Sony people?

I use ProDAD Mercalli in Vegas Pro 9.0 32-bit all the time without any problems. Just used it today to smooth out some walking hand-held footage.

    > Last point: Vegas 9 has a new background color. But the ‘new’ production assistant has still the ‘old’ background color. Is this going to change?

If it really bothers people we can look into making it selectable. Several people have asked for this.

May 24, 2009 at 3:36 pm in reply to: Skipping, And Plug-in Problems

    > I got pro 9. It doesn’t skip, but all of the effect plugins are missing. Any idea how to solve either problem?

The effects plug-ins are probably missing because they are 32-bit plug-ins and you are using the 64-bit version of Vegas Pro 9.0. Use the 32-bit version of Vegas Pro 9.0 and your 32-bit plug-ins will reappear.

May 24, 2009 at 1:28 pm in reply to: How to add timecode

Yes that’s what I was trying to explain (and not very well apparently). 😉 That you will get different timecode depending on where you add the Timecode FX so be sure to use the proper method depending on the outcome that you want.
