Sony Vegas 9 – 1920×1080 H.264
Does anyone know how I can render my SR11 1920×1080 AVCHD video to 1920×1080 H.264? I use Sony Vegas 9 Studio Platinum. When I select MainConcept AVC/ACC mpeg4 it only has two low resolution templates with the “Custom” option to create your own template grayed out. After searching Vegas 9 Help I found:
“High-quality H.264 AVC/AAC import and export (including HD support). Includes templates for Sony WALKMAN® and Apple iPod®”
under “What’s new in version 9”. However even though it says HD support the templates provided are not HD. There are no directions on how to set up a template for 1920×1080 H.264 MPEG4. Any help would really be appreciated.

Sorry, dont know much about vegas 9 platinum abilities,
But Remember it is not a professional version,
and therefore what you are experiencing is obviously a

Correction, I use Sony Vegas 9 Studio Platinum Pro(what a mouth full) :). I found the HD MPEG4 render option. Unfortunately it only does 1440×1080 with no option to change the resolution to 1920×1080. This is still an issue for me. My source video is 1920×1080 and I don’t want to loose any resolution. I would save back to AVCHD but the AVCHD output is also limited to 1440×1080, darn. There is an export to AVCHD camera option, maybe it will put it back on my SR11 in its original format (1920×1080), for some reason I doubt it.

Correction (‘cuz it’s still not right): you are using Vegas Movie Studio 9 “Platinum Pro Pack”. The “Pro Pack” is just a set of extra software that is thrown into the deal and does not change the base Movie Studio Platinum software. There is absolutely no difference between this and the regular Movie Studio Platinum meaning it is not the “pro” version. The “Platinum” means that it handles HD. Regular Movie Studio is SD only. So you have the HD version of Movie Studio 9.

Try using the Sony AVC (*.mp4;*.m2ts;*.avc) render type and select the AVCHD 1920×1080 NTSC template. This is the same format as your Sony SR11 camera.

Answer: Use the Sony AVC (*.mp4;*.m2ts;*.avc) render type and select the AVCHD 1920×1080 NTSC template.
Insight: There are two render types that support H.264. The Main Concept AVC and the Sony AVC. As the templates imply, the Main Concept is good for Apple iPod output and other small formats, and the Sony is good for Blu-ray, AVCHD, PSP, and general HD Internet output. Use the one that is best suited to your delivery format.

Just, specified what was on the software box (Sony Vegas 9 Studio Platinum Pro) so responders would know.
Thanks for your response. Shortly after posting my question (Nov 5, 2008) I figured out how to do it. What is interesting is that when I first purchased the software (Movie Studio 9) it didn’t have the 1920×1080 template, I looked under every option. So I downloaded updates to the software and also downloaded the demo version of Vegas 8. After that I noticed that several new templates and formats where there. Not sure if it was the software update or Vegas 8 demo. Everything is working correctly now.
Have you guys seen the new Prosumer cameras from Red? They will be available late this summer/early fall. I can’t wait. https://www.red.com
