One of the options in the contextual menu should be consolidate/transcodeOr go to the clip menu.
You should search in Avid Help for “Transcode” or “Consolidate”. Very informative and good to know when to use each option.

Hey all,
If you hadn’t heard, there is an important security fix in this update. Mavericks introduced a serious SSL vulnerability (bug was also in iOS7 and was patched last week). Apple has been pretty tight lipped about how serious it was, but many folks went to DEFCON 1 over it. Apparently it was a Pretty bad and embarrassing bug that opened a huge security hole.

February 24, 2014 at 2:51 pm in reply to: Exception: Cannot create AMA Sample Mapper to play this clipThis sounds like an AMA audio error. At least that’s what I think the reference to “sample mapping” is.
Can you select the sequence and transcode to an Avid resolution (DNXHD, etc). If you have v7 or above, you can click the checkbox to only transcode AMA material.
You did not specify the original format/codec. There are a few instances where transcoding may not be desirable, but generally transcoding to Avid media will give you better performance and is the preferred workflow.

February 16, 2014 at 4:12 am in reply to: Media Composer 7 with AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB?They are basically saying any graphics card that came pre installed in a fairly recent Mac will work fine.
There is no GPU acceleration for Avid on the Mac platform, so it really does not matter.
There is GPU acceleration for Windows, and a much wider range of cards available…so for PC’s it is really important to get the right GPU.
Before you get jealous of Windows users getting acceleration not available on the Mac, coming from my experience (I work on both Mac and PC based Avids), the GPU acceleration is pretty minimal and nothing like what you see on Adobe with the Mercury Engine or FCPX. You really aren’t missing anything noticeable.

Not sure if you are on Mac or Windows, Scott, but I think on windows, you can get some strange behavior if your system font mapping gets messed up.

The do support alpha.
Make sure you have millions + and not millions of colors selected.

The qualifications for GPUs on Avid only apply to the PC version of Avid. Any graphics card on a qualified Mac is supported.
There is no GPU acceleration on the Mac for Avid (and on the PC, GPU acceleration is only minimal, compared to Premiere Pro and FCPX)
