  • Exception: Cannot create AMA Sample Mapper to play this clip

Posted by Timothy Lydon on February 24, 2014 at 12:25 pm

    Hello,

I recently opened my sequence in AVID and it will not play, only this comes up:

“Exception: Cannot create AMA Sample Mapper to play this clip”

I was having trouble importing some of my footage so I linked them instead… Any ideas what to do?

    Thanks!

    Timothy

This sounds like an AMA audio error. At least that’s what I think the reference to “sample mapping” is.

Can you select the sequence and transcode to an Avid resolution (DNXHD, etc). If you have v7 or above, you can click the checkbox to only transcode AMA material.

You did not specify the original format/codec. There are a few instances where transcoding may not be desirable, but generally transcoding to Avid media will give you better performance and is the preferred workflow.

Thank you for replying. It’s not just one clip, it was the entire sequence – it wouldn’t let me do anything (copy and paste, play, etc…) Where is this checkbox?

Here it is. You’ll only have it in v.7.

Earlier versions will transcode the entire sequence to your target resolution

John, Thank you! But how do I get to this screen?

right click on the sequence in the bin.
One of the options in the contextual menu should be consolidate/transcode

Or go to the clip menu.

You should search in Avid Help for “Transcode” or “Consolidate”. Very informative and good to know when to use each option.
