Media Composer 7 with AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB?
Looking to upgrade my MC 6 to 7. Avid’s system requirements state the following graphics cards are compatible “NVIDIA GeForce family3 (recommended), Intel HD4000 or ATI Radeon family (as supported by Apple)”
By ‘family’ do they incorporate the AMD Radeon’s? I realize this could be a silly question to those who are more educated on Graphics Card tech.
My System:
OS X 10.9
3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
20 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB -

They are basically saying any graphics card that came pre installed in a fairly recent Mac will work fine.
There is no GPU acceleration for Avid on the Mac platform, so it really does not matter.
There is GPU acceleration for Windows, and a much wider range of cards available…so for PC’s it is really important to get the right GPU.
Before you get jealous of Windows users getting acceleration not available on the Mac, coming from my experience (I work on both Mac and PC based Avids), the GPU acceleration is pretty minimal and nothing like what you see on Adobe with the Mercury Engine or FCPX. You really aren’t missing anything noticeable.
