Apple only makes them available with an FCP install…not possible on a PC, but the AJA and BM codecs will work for you.

Bogiesan had the right idea, sort of. No need for an alpha channel codec, though. Just apply the t/c generator filter to the slug. Render it. Export as Quicktime Move (make self contained). Apply this clip to video track 2 (you can reuse this clip over and over) . Crop as needed to reveal your video on track 1. Render and export. Rendering of this effect is fast, compared to the rendering of the TC filter.

There are several ways to perform a crop. Read “Creating Motion Effects in the Canvas” beginning on page III-236 of the help manual if you dont know how to do this.

He needs to render this, as this is for export for an audio system, not for continued work in FCP. Rendering blending modes or keys are slower than rendering a crop, usually, so I wouldnt recommend this.

Here’s an idea.
Sounds like you always have the same timecode.

Render out the timecode filter once, then export this clip as a self contained Quicktime movie.

In the future, just superimpose this over your clip, then crop it in the motion tab.
Motion tab effects usually render much faster filters and plugins.

Also, you may wish to use the DV codec instead of H.264, as it is much less processor intensive. Not sure what audio system you are using, but using the DV codec is quite common in ProTools.

As you have discovered, you should also be in a timeline that matches the codec of the video clip. I don’t think there is a preset for H264, as its not really an editing codec.

You need to go to Apple’s website and purchase the 5.1 crossgrade.
You ship them your install disks and they send you new ones. The new disks will likely have the current version on it.

(if not, you will just do the crossgrade install, then run Software update to get to the most recent point release)

I would expect the next version of FCP will have an improved color corrector. Anyone who has used the more recent Avid CC or the Symphony certainly would love to see Curves brought over to FCP.

There is no special formatting. Its just a regular MacOS Extended volume (on Mac formatted iPods). The music is “invisible” because the music folder has a “.” in front of it. Many third party programs can access the music on an iPod.

So yes. You can partition an iPod. Just reload your music when you are done.

What do you feel that Colorista gives you that you don’t get with the built in FCP 3-way?
Do you use the Power Windows a lot?

I just downloaded the demo the other day and it didn’t immediately seem that much of an improvement over the existing CC, but that was just a first impression….what should I be checking out more closely?
