I am unable to view quicktime files in the DVCPro HD 760p60 format on final cut pro v. 5.0.4

    Shot with Panasonic HVX

    I have a Powerbook G4, v. 10.4.8, 1 GHz processor, 512 MB SDRAM

Get error message about using compression type without corresponding hardware card.

    any help would be appreciated

    thanks

Was it imported on a FCP system running a later version of FCP? If so, that’s why. There are newer DVCPRO HD codecs. Time to upgrade.

Oh, and get more RAM. Suprised you can work with FCP with only 512MB RAM in your system.

thats the problem — the DVCPROHD codec needs 1G Ram to be able to load….

How do I upgrade from final cut 5.0 to the latest version, do I have to re-install everything from scratch?

    thanks

You need to go to Apple’s website and purchase the 5.1 crossgrade.
You ship them your install disks and they send you new ones. The new disks will likely have the current version on it.

(if not, you will just do the crossgrade install, then run Software update to get to the most recent point release)

    Hello,

The new FCP update installs a new codec for DVCPRO HD. An update should solve your problem.
