Just played back a sequence I did about a month ago in DV50 and it appears fine. Its a short sequence though.

Can you give us more info….what do you mean by not usable?

You do know that exported OMF files from FCP will NOT work in an Avid, right??…they will only work in an audio program, like Pro Tools.

You can move an OMF into Avid using Automatic Duck, which can export in the mode that Avid’s can understand.

The “Send to Compressor” command does not use your sequence render files (your lower third is a rendered effect), but rather renders directly into the codec you are exporting to.
This can slightly improve quality when exporting to MPEG-2 for a DVD, but in this case it appears to be tripping you up, as it is not accounting for HDV’s anamorphic frame size correctly, in addition to the resize to 720p. I think thats why your graphics look stretched.

Best to take the extra step and export a Reference Movie, drag that into Compressor and see how it goes. Reference movies only take a few seconds to export.

It reads the source/sequence timecode, or you can select to start it at 0.

These are the black clips, bars, media offline slate etc, created by the system. The folder is automatically created on your scratch disk. If you move or delete it, the system will create another one there.

Describe your workflow…how did you get your 1080 footage into Compressor?

Sounds like you changed the overall preference instead of the settings of your sequence.
Changing the preferences changes the output for all NEW sequences, but has no effect on the existing ones.

Unlike Avid, FCP can have multiple projects and sequences open at the same time…and each open sequence can have its own audio output setting.

Read the sections on Media Manager and transcoding to Offline RT in the manual.

Basically, you transcode your footage to a much smaller codec (PhotoJPEG) and edit. Then when you are done with your offline, you reconnect to the full res medial.

If you are making a DVD screening copy, Compressor 3 now includes a timecode burnin filter, which can add the visual timecode during the encode.
