“No. There is no setting that does this. This was a symptom reported by many when FCP 5 was first released…though it was always in the case of multichannel audio.
He needs to update to fix the problem. There is no workaround.
You might try only updating Quicktime, but they may result in other problems and not fix the problem.
The update program to 6 is very generous (you get the whole suite for a very reasonable price). Of course if his computer does not meet the requirements for FCP 6, then he will have to track down a copy of 5.x on Ebay or something.

An Avid based facility that I freelance in frequently has digital delays installed on their audio monitor outs from the mixer to compensate for this lag.

After looking again, I see you have only two channels. (is it possible you had the capture set to capture 4 channels?)
Still, I think its due to the changes made in FCP 5 in the way the program handles audio. He should upgrade to at least FCP 5 (preferably 6, if his computer meets the minimum requirements)

FCP 4.5 cannot handle clips captured with more than 2 channels of audio.
That capability was introduced in FCP 5.For this to work, he needs to upgrade.

try opening in cinema tools then conform the movie to 25fps. this will take a second, as its not really doing anything except repairing the metadata that FCP is reading.
this worked for me on some clips whose frame rate was being read wrong in FCP (but not from snapz pro)

What format is this recorded at?
1080i/59.94 or 1080psf 23.98?
If you want to edit on a 29.97 timeline and are working with 1080psf/23.98 footage, you need to have the deck add the pulldown.

Yes. This is correct. You might have to do some trial and error to see which version of XML works best…there is a pulldown menu with several choices on it.
