Yes. This is correct. You might have to do some trial and error to see which version of XML works best…there is a pulldown menu with several choices on it.

Examine your sequence closely. But you knew that already.

Why do you need to go back to v 5.1.4? The upgrade price is very reasonable.

I already own FCP6 but the facility where we were onlining has pulled out. Consequently we have to online at a facility that is not happy about upgrading yet (they’ve had some problems with 6), so I need to downgrade my sequence.

I’ll have to check my onlined sequence like a hawk as I have DVCAM timecode slippage (from a dodgy dub machine – I’ll murder the Producer who thought that the timecode NOT matching the BITC would be ok to edit/conform with!!!) – Up to 7 seconds slippage on one tape over 40 minutes!
So I’ll reconform with 10 second handles and then slip the footage back to where it should be.

Long and drawnout for an online but that’s the way the cookie crumbles sometimes!

I’ve been dealing with the headache of going from 6 back to 5.1.4 for the past two weeks. I am not sure of all the bugs, but I think you should look out for the following:

Export XML version 2.0, FCP 5 will not import XML 3.0

Remove any freeze frames you have, they appear to halt the XML process.

I think you’ve done the right thing in removing the motion affected shots and making them 100%, the remapping feature seems to not work so well in XML land

Also, I highly, highly recommend you have your Facility get the latest version of Automatic Duck FCP Import so you can import an OMF of your sequence, it will save you time and headaches in the audio portion of your timeline.

I’ve been doing XML 3.0 exports from FCP6 going back to 5.1.4 with no problems.

Last week i needed to open a FC 6 project in a G5 with FC 5.1.2, I exported a XML 4.0 file but FC couldn’t open it. When I tried the XML 3.0, great everything was there.

I tried the same a month or so ago,, but only ver. XML 2 and/or 1 would work for me.. going from 6 to 5.14.
