You will not likely be able to edit ProRes in HD either, with that machine. I have the same machine and it definitely cannot handle it…and I have a pretty fast RAID. It’s definitely the processors….in fact I can do Uncompressed HD but not ProRes.
You will definitely be able to work in DVCPRO-HD. It works just fine.

try turning off real time scopes playback.
It takes additional processor cycles to scale DVCPRO-HD to full raster for playback, unless you have a Kona card.

You basically only get RT with the codecs that have Easy Setups. You will not get RT with Photo JPEG at full frame size.
In FCP 6.x you can use ProRes as your compressed codec for both HD and SD. You will need an Intel Mac or G5 Quad to use ProRes for HD.

Soundtrack Pro is scriptable and you can make the scripts available in the Finder via a right/control click.
I haven’t tried to set this particular scenario up, but have for other tasks and it works well.

Yes.
Please explain your methodology for converting your DVD footage. You should not be getting these odd frame sizes.

It only works within a project. Find bin will not work with bins that live in another project.

The capture window reflect the size and aspect of what is loaded in the canvas/viewer. Does not affect capture.
