Can’t get rid of the Red Render Line
hi all,
I’m getting back into Final Cut tools after a long absence. I fully understand about matching sequence format to clip format to avoid the red render line, but I can’t figure out why it’s still happening.
I’ve taken great care to match the settings exactly, and create an easy setup, and create a new sequence, etc…. The frame sizes are “non-standard” but is that the reason why it needs to render? With these fast modern machines?
These are long clips, up to two hours or more, converted from DVD. That’s why the strange aspect, as they are now square pixel 16 x 9 clips– they are 720×404, instead of anamorphic 720×480. But– the clip and the sequence still match exactly.
Perhaps there is an RT setting somewhere I’ve overlooked?

Yes.
Please explain your methodology for converting your DVD footage. You should not be getting these odd frame sizes.

Yes, FCP works best when the sequence settings and media match, but where you went wrong was creating a non-standard frame size. FCP uses codecs that adhere to video standards so that when outputing to tape or to monitors there images are not distorted.
So, you need to select an existing standard, such as the DV NTSC at 720×480 and adjust the video to display properly, by letterboxing or scling it to fill the frame, you cannot adjust the frame size to fit the video.
