Any QuickTime codec that FCP captures to supports 4 channels of audio. Just be emphatic that 4 channels need to be maintained, so they capture it properly.
To maintain picture quality you can use ProRes 422, or if your drive system can support it, Uncompressed 8 or 10 bit. ProRes 422 would be my choice.

This sounds completely nuts. What network is this? Can you call someone higher up? From all description you are doing everything right and what you will end up giving them will be inferior.
By the way… I just edited a prime time special that aired on CBS this week…. being pro-active, we called the network about some marginal video we wanted to include in the show. We offered to send him a tape to make a judgement about whether it was air-worthy, as taking it out at the last minute, if it failed QC would have been a costly disaster. The guy at CBS said…
“This is an unnecessary exercise… do YOU think its okay for broadcast?” We said “sure”. He said “That’s good enough for me.”
This was CBS. Prime time.

“Can you explain this further…. I have Compressor open now, and did what you said, but there is no way to change the size that I can see. Everything remains greyed out. You can only use standard sizes.

What capture card (Aja, Blackmagic, Matrox) and what calibrated broadcast monitor do you have?
You can’t work effectively with Color without these items.

I’ve not encountered this problem and can’t seem to recreate it.

You can use Soundtrack Pro to try to adjust the pitch or use the more traditional method also described in the earlier post.

I’ve heard there are a few programs that can do it, but I have never encountered one. The MPEG 2 spec is pretty rigid.
Why does the client want this? There are many other codecs that are more flexible and easier to encode.
Is the client confusing MPEG 2 and MPEG 4?

Custom sizes are not possible with Compressor. Its only capable of making compliant files for specific purposes like DVD’s.

Is the sound way off in the viewer or canvas?
If you put it in a 48k sequence, you will have problems, however you can deal with it by rendering the audio or by re-exporting the clip as 48k.
If its off in the viewer I am not sure what the problem is. how are you monitoring?

You do know that you cant use HD footage on a DVD, right?
Downconvert your assets to SD during your MPEG-2 encode in Compressor. If you are in NTSC, your dimensions should be 720 x 480 (which all the NTSC SD DVD presets are in Compressor).
