DV can be 32 or 48k

Usually, its 48k, and the FCP presets are set up for that, but its possible to record in 32k as well.

Most decks and cameras will indicate the audio sample rate of the tape somewhere. Tell us what model you are using.

If you need to capture in 32k, you can duplicate the DV capture preset and change the sample rate, so you can capture properly in 32k.

Click the control key with the quad split active.

This gives you the clip name, not the timecode…is that what you are looking for?

ProRes422 is good, but if your final product is on DV tape, everything gets recompressed to DV by the VTR when you record…so all the benefit is lost..get it?

but if you are multiple-purposing, then ProRes 422 may be of some benefit.

No need for ProResHQ or ProRes4444′ as DV is not of sufficient resolution to have any benefit.

What do you do with the projects you edit?

If you output to DV tape, there is no point to using any other codec except DV.

If your final product is destined for something different, the answer might be different.

What is codec Color sending back to FCP?

    do the frame rates match?

sounds like Color is sending back something different than you sent it.

Can’t say that I have ever used AIC?

Why are you not using ProRes? AIC is not used much these days.

What codec was your FCP timeline that you sent to Color?

  • Explain the steps you took to merge the clips

A new iMac will run circles around your G5 and happily run Final Cut Studio.

However, an iMac has no PCI slots, so if you need to add a card, you are stuck. Not sure if you need one in your workflow.

A Mac Pro is great, but if budget is a concern, an iMac is certainly a viable machine in many environments.

    “Manual? There’s a manual?”

How silly of me. I think the You Tube of the sneak peek pretty much answer all the questions anyone might have.

I plan to not read the manual and ask you guys how to do even the most simplest of tasks.
    Repeatedly.
