It’s more common to use 23.976 in NTSC land, as that is what most HD cameras shoot.
True 24 fps requires audio speed adjustments when going to/from 29.97 which makes working with it more complicated.

Download AJA system test or Blackmagic’s disk speed test and see what your drive speeds really are.
On the surface, it seems your hardware should be able to handle 1080 HD, though you have not given complete specs.
Why are you using AIC and not ProRes? AIC is basically a legacy codec and inferior to ProRes in quality and performance.

This e-mail is nonsense. The current MacPro will run Snow Leopard, no problem.
The MacPro has not been updated in a very long time…since well before the release of Lion. -
Sorry for your trouble. Wish I had a better solution. Been working with FCP since v.1 and never seen anything like that.

You can’t do it all in one step and and get a good conversion. The MPEG 2 encoder is not a standards converter.
Do it in two steps. First do your standards conversion. Export your NTSC sequence and take that into Compressor. Convert it to PAL 8 Bit Uncompressed or PAL Pro Res 422. Open the Frame Controls, set the resize to Better (or Best) and the Rate Conversion to Better (or Best). Setting everything to Best takes forever and does not necessarily improve it much, so do a short test to see if Better does the job to your liking.
Take your new PAL file. Compress that to MPEG2 using the same preset.

Crazy problem. Have no idea what is causing that.
A couple of workarounds..
Use opacity keyframes instead of fades. Blade just after the second keyframe so you don’t have to render the whole clip. Does this work instead of the fade effect?
If not, and its still tossing your renders…make a self contained movies of just the fade areas and cut them into your timeline. Then export your reference movie. I know…stupid…but if you need to get it done, it doesn’t take very long.

Did you do it in this order?
1) uninstall, including all preferences.
2) repair permissions
3) re-install cs 5.5.
4) update to cs 5.5.1 -
Neither does Decklink, when it is working right.
Uninstall, then reinstall your driver package.

I was getting this error like crazy after updating to Lion.
Uninstalled. Repaired permissions on the drive. Reinstalled. All seems well for now.

Engage audio keyframes in the smart tool.
Hover directly over the keyframe. Hit Delete key.
